(12,597 posts)We need more men speaking out. May not be as eloquent or powerful as this, but every man's voice in behalf of the women they know and love is a solid defense against misogyny and on-going abuse.
Good one on this young man.

(114,671 posts)Wow, just wow. Stereotype shattered forever.
Then again, I remember the silly period in which boys got dolls and girls got trucks along with sex typed toys. The boys would hold Barbie by her feet and yell "BANG!" The girls would wrap a truck in a blankie and put it to bed. Yes, I personally witnessed both behaviors, along with the shock and disgust on their mother's face.
But he makes a good point, even if playing Barbies with a sister when there are no boys around is not what causes them to treat women like livestock.
It's male culture, that adolescent stew of pimples, unwanted erections, and a breaking voice that tells them they can cover it all up by being swaggering assholes who are vicious to girls. That's what grown men need to address. Maybe this guy will make a start.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
