Books teach. Books enlighten. Books make people aware. Books make people think. Books help make for an educated, knowledgeable society. Books help people advance themselves. Books teach us of those who would use us (at best), and enslave us (at worst).

Books are what many Republicans don't want us to have access to. Books are the enemy of fascism, authoritarianism, and neo-Nazisism. Books are a threat to the powerful who want to own us all.

I've read several versions of the Bible plus many books Biblical history by authors like Pagels, Scholem, etc. Have literally 100s of scholarly and collector quality books.

Main use of organized religions is to "otherize" and justify mistreatment or unfair treatment of people who won't or cannot comply or are just in the way. Convenient tool for bullies and haters, however subtle. Convenient tool for politics. Why the USA has separation of church and state, the Founding Fathers were not perfect but got religion correct. Where one finds religions, one finds victims. Christianity and Islam for example.
