A Texas man is charged with murder after allegedly posing as a minor to meet and kill a convicted sex offender, according to authorities.
The Houston Police Department alleges that in May 2023, James Spencer III, 22, shot and killed victim Sean Connery Showers, 37.
Police claim Showers approached a vehicle in the early morning hours of May 29 and then was shot by the suspect, who at the time was unidentified. Upon further investigation, police arrested Spencer, who they claim admitted to the killing.
Showers pleaded guilty to possessing child sex abuse material in 2009, federal authorities said at the time, ABC 13 reports. Showers was sentenced to 30 months in prison and then to two years in 2019 for failing to register as a sex offender, per the outlet.

(24,207 posts)Predators need to be caught and dealt with by the law, but this type of vigilantism is wrong.
There was a guy here in Michigan/Indiana who was trying to catch predators and he was so sloppy that none of his evidence could be used by police, so predators got away. Eventually one o his targets murdered him.
He was doing it for the Youtube follows. One of his targets ended up being a cerebral palsy sufferer who was an analyst for the University of Michigan Football program. Met him at a liquor store under the guise that he was a 14 year old teen girl looking to party and drink. The target was 20 years old and because of his palsy couldn't walk or speak correctly and it was the saddest sight you've ever seen. Just a lonely disabled college student who had made a horrible mistake. No chargers could be filed in that either.

Somehow predators are often allowed to get out and hurt more people so it's a problem that needs to be addressed.

(6,299 posts)Im just speculating, but, theres been a clout war of predator catchers on TikTok who keep trying to one-up each other in terms of brutality.
Not sure if that happened here, but; I wouldnt be surprised.
Edit - and, if your reaction is, good! to this, I assure you it isnt. All it does it make it so the police cant prosecute the predator, and, helps the predator to learn from their mistake, possibly causing another child to be raped or killed.
This is the polices job. Vigilantes just fuck things up. Ive seen it myself.
