Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) says the U.S. Senate will hold a vote on the bipartisan border deal on Wednesday, despite Republican opposition.
In a closed door meeting Monday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told his fellow Republican senators to vote 'no' on the bill, noting that while there is nothing wrong with the legislation, the political winds have changed. Translation: Donald Trump is actively pressuring Republicans to vote against the bill so that he can continue to run on the immigration issue during his campaign.
In a stunning turn of events, Republicans are now refusing to vote for the strongest border compromise bill in American history, and they now stand in opposition to even border patrol agents.
Acting Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Troy Miller said the bill contains "the strongest set of tools we have had in decades" to secure the border in an internal Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) memo.

But the Republicans wouldn't vote for it. So it's Republicans fault migrants continue to flow across the border.
DO NOT blame the Democrats.
DO NOT blame President Biden.
BLAME your Republican politicians who Trump is leading by the nose.
This is the message Democrats have to deliver everyday.

(5,410 posts)Republican senator.....
President Biden was right, the Republicans in thrall to Trump have no backbone---
not even to protect their own political interests, against the threats of Trump....

(46,147 posts)Easy enough to hang a no vote on cloture around their necks as a no vote on border security.

(23,263 posts)We can try, but its hard to shame an individual senator for a cloture vote, which only means they oppose ending debate.
A floor vote on a specific bill is much harder to avoid accountability for.

(5,410 posts)securing the border--- after they spent most of the past year bitching about it!
If they filibuster--- that will only serve as an indictment against every Republican in the U.S. Senate!

(648 posts)"If Schumer wants us to vote against it, then we're for it" type stuff? The MAGAt's in congress will need straightjackets if that's the case.
