Donald Trump knows what his own
WH staff, DOJ appointees, campaign officials, etc told the 1/6 grand jury. Trump is trying to delay the trial to prevent those witnesses from testifying in open court. Americans have a right to hear from those witnesses now.

(102,992 posts)I have quite a fondness for Liz's directness (AS LONG AS IT IS LIMITED TO GOING AFTER TRUMP and his ilk)
...sometimes belief and respect for our Constitution and our country out weighs partisan politics...
...this is what separates patriots from political hacks...

and ALL her comrades in the U.S. Senate, created this Frankenstein's Monster, nourished it every day for four plus years, and now have no way of stopping it or his followers...............

since Jan 6 at great personal and professional cost, which almost every other GOP coward wasn't willing to risk. They will go down in history as cowards and quislings. Even if there's little to no room for political agreement with her and a lot to argue against - she put country over party again and again in the fight to bring Trump to justice for his crimes and to warn the country of the damage he continues to inflict on it. History will look kindly on her for that.

(14,218 posts)Like Liz Cheney.
They helped usher in the "Tea Party" movement. Then coddled Donald Trump all the way up to him winning. Then voted for all his legislation for giant tax cuts for the wealthy, and cuts to environment, food stamps, veterans, etc to pay for a fraction of it. Backed all anti-choice laws.
But to continue on with doing the devils work, she knows that traditional Republicans have to get rid of Trump, who's not a conservative at all. He's just a grifting opportunist with no morals or ethics. Uncontrollable, unpredictable. And only interested in how it benefits him personally. Which is why the Koch brothers, and other big donors are not backing Trump.
To put it another way, Trump is going too fast for them.
THEY want to be the ones who destroy America. But they know that the best way to do that is a slow deterioration of rights and real wages and spending on SS and medical legislation like the ACA and is more possible if they are heating the public up in a cauldron slowly reducing funding for those in need, and increasing their own wealth, reducing the powers that oversee and regulate and their tax contributions.
Doing it in a way that this redistribution of wealth goes literally unnoticed. Its been normalized through time. They've been at it for decades already, and using the frogs/cauldron method, they have been very successful at still keeping alive the myth that Republicans/conservatives are better at handling the economy than Democrats/liberals. Trump could blow that all up. Because he's such a clown and shit disturber that Republicans may not get elected in a long time if he keeps this up.
That's what she's worried about. That Democrats will remain in power and make it harder for her and her fellow cons to pillage the treasury and screw the American worker.

(12,254 posts)Liz Cheney is one of the leftover republicans. A dying breed.
I always found it strange how John Boehner jumped ship.
That party keeps moving more and more to the right. I used to hate John Boehner for his extreme right attitude, but now I see him as a moderate.
