President Biden is quiet, thoughtful, serious, hardworking and goodhearted. He puts his head down and figures out how to get the job done. Not pointless flash, but substance instead ... and he's funny as heck.
The man was done with the national stage. He went home to be husband, dad and grandpa. To play with his dogs and teach a few classes. He earned it.
A day will come in the future when even his detractors admit the incredible sacrifice he made for us. He could have stuck to just saving Democracy from Trump. Instead, he got a ridiculous amount of initiatives through that make a material difference for everyday Americans. He's doing everything possible to make sure his "replacements" are ready for the job. He put people in positions to help them step up to a higher stage.
I don't think we really know how fortunate we are to have him in this moment.

(44,793 posts)I think maybe he didnt expect a completely corrupt Republican Party. . Since he knew a lot of these people and they have just turned sour. Every Republican is deep in the tank for Trump now. And they have no sense of decorum or fair play. Those are things that guided Joe his whole career. And the rest of the senators and legislators, used to be. Im pretty sure none of us couldve imagined a Marjorie Taylor Greene being elected to Congress and being allowed to have such a powerful position. As a child of the cold war I cant believe how theyre trying to undermine his presidency overseas. Its positively traitorous

(1,821 posts)that Biden is 'Old Man, Poor Memory', when Trump just 'makes shit up to shut you up'.
That's why Trump has a mile long list of lies that follow him around!
Biden is accessing his mind for an honest answer, and the longer it takes to do that makes him look weak.
Personal Confession: I DO THIS TOO! Sometimes I don't come up with the answer until the next day!
I'd rather have a president or congressman who can give me honest answers than a used car salesman barking shit up or tell me anything to get rid of me or my questions. Trump has been doing this all his life!
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...I haven't heard him refer to "my friends across the aisle" in a while.

Later on, Joe said, I thought he was a friend.
I think that says a lot about both men, and I think it was the beginning of Joe Bidens understanding of the betrayal and rot of the GOP.

(801 posts)He was not going to run. But remember in 2015 when all the polls put him first and he hadn't even declared to run! I think friends and maybe family convinced him to run, to be the candidate to beat Trump. And he surely didn't expect a second term. He did it for his country. THAT, friends is patriotism.
Think. Again.

(14,270 posts)Unfortunately for us we love someone with charisma and flash, generally. We are way, too celebrity focused in our present day culture.
Our dear president is the real deal and as sharp as a tack. He is low key, though, and doesn't hog the spotlight, or podium. He is a very busy man who is committed to doing the best he can.
He often is bowled over by all those who do hog the spotlight, including the sick fuck. The media can't look away. It knows the public appetite.
It sure the heck isn't President Biden's fault that he isn't cute and cuddly with Einstein-like looks, or presents a created-tough-guy image with heavy bronzer, shoe lifts and shoulder pads, and hair weaves. He also doesn't ooze cool like our beloved former president Obama who was so smooth both in looks and speech. He does dress neatly, retains a good physic, and is serious--and caring.
We (again, in general) seem to glob on to a personality. Thank goodness in the case of former President Obama he was also a good man and a wonderful leader.
I often think that we are in a reality show personality contest. Very, very scary.
We do live in a celebrity obsessed society and everyone is judged on personality and stage presence. Sadly, we've become a truly shallow, uneducated country. People vote in presidential elections as if they are voting for American Idol.
pandr32
(14,270 posts)"...shallow, uneducated..." don't like to be confronted with it, either. They dig in, and would prefer to bring the rest of the country down to their level. They give cover to the hidden special interests and foreign adversaries which/who want the same thing, but in order to obtain power, control and profit.
Happy Valentine's week!

(17,610 posts)It disappoints me to no end that they take the Presidency so flippantly such as re: Bush Jr. "He seems like he'd be great to have a beer with." Or TSF, "He tells it like it is". We used to vote for the person who was the most capable and experienced and policy driven. Remember Al Gore was "too stiff". Howard Dean raised his voice at one time and oh boy, that was the end of him. Hillary wore too many pant suits. Ridiculous.
PatSeg
(53,213 posts)I find this to especially be true of women candidates. Someone like Angela Merkel would never get elected President in this country, because she lacks the personality and style that American people demand. Most definitely, Hillary was not judged on her qualifications and experience. She failed the TV personality test and as you said, "wore too many pantsuits".
