That's not my opinion. It's the opinion of Ruth Ben-Ghiat, historian, who was Velshi's show this morning. In fact, she specifically said the press (not the corporate media),"and not just Fox News" is lionizing him. And that is extremely dangerous for our democracy.
They lionize him by over publicizing anything that helps him (Biden's relatively minor gaffes, poll numbers (when they're good for Cheato), certain economic statistics such as inflation, and his very expected wins in the republican primary).
They lionize him by downplaying anything that is bad for him, such as almost every economic statistic, job numbers, legislation passed, and reform of the Justice Dept. under Biden. Then they whitewash the truly frightening threats coming out this freak's mouth daily, the worst of which is his vow to let Russia run rampant. His court cases are also presented as a postive for him.
We need to open our eyes even though it is not pleasant and solutions are difficult to devise. The fact that this is a very serious, hard to solve problem is not a reason to ignore it.

(14,926 posts)They're all paid as "content creators", with the goal of driving clicks and views... much like Mr. Beast on Youtube.
What you see on MSNBC is engineered and tailored to a specific audience... it's usually catnip, meaning content that makes the intended target happy and feel vindicated.
Same on Fox News. Just different targeted audience.

(31 posts)We liberals keep watching, keep clicking, keep subscribing. Enough. They have nailed their colors to the mast. Take whatever time you spend watching this garbage and volunteer, take whatever money you pay and send it to Joe's campaign. Stop watching and supporting these garbage excuses for journalists.

(12,638 posts)and I'm surprised an educated guest would employ this term when making the case made here.
You might accurately say they 'favor' Trump, or 'give advantage' - but that is quite different from 'lionizing'.

(643 posts)Corporations exist to deliver profit. When they don't do that, or don't do that well enough, they often cease to be. You can chart that in the decline of local newspapers as one example, deregulated (thanks to Reagan's goon squad) media consolidation is another. The unfortunate "bottom line" is that trump sells. For example, NYT and WaPo subscriptions went up substantially during his administration, and fell rather dramatically afterwards. Books about Trump sold remarkably and generated huge (for publishing) advances for the writers. You probably read some of these, given that the participants on this site seem to be well above-average in their knowledge of that subject. You may even have purchased one or two of the books. I did. Biden is dull in comparison. I can't cite sales statistics, but my gut tells me that there aren't nearly as many books and they certainly aren't hyped as much. I don't recall seeing Rachel Maddow feature any writer of some "insider" book about Biden or the actors in his administration and/or their deeds or misdeeds. Bob Woodward, for another example, wrote four books about the last administration (Fear, Rage, Peril and The Trump Tapes), but so far has none about the current one. I'll leave it to you to decide whether or not "The Press" seeks to have Reek restored to power, but even here folks take notice (myself included) every time his ugly mug crops up in any media format. The Society of the Spectacle, indeed.
