Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators protested inside the Museum of Modern Art on Saturday to demand a free Palestine and an art world without Zionism.
Footage on Instagram showed demonstrators crowding into the museums lobby, chanting Free Palestine, and hanging banners that said Ceasefire now and Free Palestine from the river to the sea, which Jewish organizations have said is an antisemitic call for Israels destruction.
Protest organizers and news reports said the demonstration had forced MoMA to close early on Saturday. The museum did not respond to a request for comment.
The Palestinian Youth Movement, one of the organizers, said the protest was meant to demand an end to arts complicity with Zionism.

The DUers (and others) who uncritically support this stuff should really stop pretending that it's not anti-Semitic and/or that it's only criticism of the Israeli government.

(26,314 posts)How about getting in some form of alignment with reality.
Genocidal wars to wipe Israel off the map have failed time and time again and even if she were to be completely isolated the results would either be the same or any victory wholly fruitless.
Israel likely has a nuclear arsenal that equals that of Britain or France and a triad to unleash it.
They will absolutely go down swinging and that means not only no Palestinians to be free but no Arabs, Persians, or very plausibly no anyone else so give up the Middle East's version of The South Shall Rise Again and earnestly seek peace and a real compromise that spits out the obviously absurd River to the Sea and accepts Israel may as well be the earth and sky as far as this conversation goes.
The Cause is a lost one and every pursuit of it only doubles the misery of those who it is said to be on behalf of.
There is no path to victory here but there is one to peace and even prosperity if it is the one held onto for dear life instead of the nonsense and lies.

(13,850 posts)claiming it's only zionism they're protesting. That's why the park benches in Prospect Park had graffiti that read
a) Hamas = Freedom Fighters, iykyk and b) Free Gaza from Jewish control.
Antisemitism in decolonialization crowd is just off the charts.

(3,639 posts)or provocative Palestinian artists. Its probably not real great. Probably get killed for blasphemy at some point.
They should go support artists there instead of shouting about want a world without Jews.

(28,836 posts)It's an odd target, but then, protesting odd targets is not unique to these groups. They are looking for attention, of course, and the MOMA is probably a good place to get that.

Does it mean the art world should expunge all Jewish art and Jewish artists? Or just Israeli art and Israeli artist? Or all Judaica? What about ancient works of Jewish art and archeological finds in Israel and elsewhere depicting the history of the Jewish people?
These protesters are motivated by hatefulness and ignorance.
Note: I really wanted to use curse words to describe them.

We could take bets, with the loser's portion going to support DU, a win-win!
