Cosby, OJ, Elvis and MJ come to mind for notoriety but this is a f'in POTUS charged (and convicted of RAPE)and facing other crimes in at multiple venues?

As with all things Trump, I get queasy hoping for proper outcomes.
But, still. Both Carroll trials were juries. They had no problem.

(19,107 posts),.. loving town, he is hated and despised there. So juries much less favorable to Fat Hitler.
Florida might be more Maga jurors and favorable or sympathetic to the Orange Messiah. But southern Florida has many blue areas. But it only takes one rabid MAGA on the jury to toss the verdict of guilty.
With Cannon overseeing the case it is such a crap shoot.

(1,416 posts)For there to be a downfall you must achieve height. Cosby, despite his grievous faults, advanced public education. OJ arguably advanced the case against discriminatory cultural barriers (before he went kill-happy). Elvis didn't so much fall as devolve into a caricature of himself. MJ married Peter Parker. What did Trump ever do?

Undeservedly so, appallingly so, but nevertheless, a great height. This was, however, not a height of accomplishment, except as a personal accomplishment for himself.
My doubts about "a downfall worse than any previously seen" are not about the possible magnitude of Trump's downfall, but if it that downfall will actually happen as it should. I think victory over Trump is more likely than what polls currently show, but until the odds are nearly 100% I won't feel safe for myself or the country.
TwilightZone
(28,836 posts)We've become so used to Trump's abhorrent behavior and criminality over an extended period of time that it's not as impactful as it might be otherwise.
But if one looks at it objectively, it's so outside of the normal realm of experience that it should be even more shocking than it is.
As for comparisons in US history, it's hard to find an equal. Buchanan's actions and lack thereof led to the Civil War, and he meddled with the Supreme Court, but his personal downfall can't compare.
Maybe Jefferson Davis? The worst of Buchanan (and more), plus a personal downfall, though I'm still not sure it would be on the same kind of scale. The government couldn't figure out what exactly to do with him. He was eventually imprisoned, but released on bail and then given amnesty as part of Andrew Johnson's proclamation in 1868.

(35,127 posts)All I see is MSM thugs hyping him up. I don't know what to think anymore but I don't like what I'm seeing right now. All I know is that if he gets elected without any of the trials having been done, we're a joke. A failed state.

(3,558 posts)the binder on Russian assets, and why they lost so many agents in the field after Trump took office. These people arent idiots. Were talking CIA, NSA, and FBI here. If theres one thing theyre rabid about its protecting secrets. My guess is they are keeping charges under wraps, though I dont know why. Maybe they want a few convictions on lesser crimes first, because if they go for the big stuff right away theyll set off a total fire storm. But my sense is the whole party is terrified. Mike Johnson is in way over his head and he knows it. All the phony antics of the MAGA crowd in the house are a pathetic attempt to distract, but they know the formula isnt working anymore. Theyre just waiting for the knock on the door.

(103,784 posts)I think Smith knows where the other missing stuff is and what it is. -45 has that secret room in his bedroom suite and an locked closet and whatever is in Ivana's casket. What else does he have? Blackmail materials on "his" supreme court justices as well as all his toadies in Congress. I think that's what's out there along with whatever jared has been delivering to his pal in the ME and whatever the magats carry with them to ruzzia. It's a big ugly mess. But remember, Smith was probably watching from the bench in The Hague so he might have a much better perspective regarding the big picture and international concerns.
So mote it be.

(7,882 posts)but I can't focus in on what, and it drives me crazy. I just keep remembering that Gang of 8 meeting where Feinstein came out of it, white as a sheet. As much as we know... as much as many of us already think might be... I just feel there's something out there so big that it'll shake the already shaky foundations of this country. What in the hell did he do while president that could top what we already know? I thought asking for the list of our spies and then our spies disappearing or ending up dead was the worst that could happen... beyond selling our country's secrets to Russia. But I think there's something beyond that. It's just my limited brain and lack of a criminal mind can't imagine what it could be.
Hope you're right, 2na! And especially about it being this weekend. I'm reading for this spidey sense to calm down. I could use a break from my anti-anxiety med! (LOL)

(26,217 posts)The California man who has prevented over 100 murders
https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/nights/audio/2018922961/the-california-man-who-has-prevented-over-100-murders
Little did the Californian know he would eventually be responsible for saving dozens of lives and preventing multiple murders.
That's because Bob owns the website RentAHitman.com - he bought it in 2005 without an intention of actually attracting people seeking killers for hire.
(He does web analytics, and "hit" means a web click, or so he thought.)
Everything changed in 2010 when a person called Helen from the UK emailed the website asking to have three of her family members murdered because she claimed they had stolen her inheritance.
Bob alerted the authorities. He estimates that over time, he has prevented 100 murders.
He runs the website out of his own pocket but he accepts donations and sell t-shirts to help cover some of the costs.
