(11,098 posts)I don't know what that's all about either. Personally I appreciate the post overall. But also interested in how the personal connection effects your view of the race, if at all. Like: Does knowing personally the character of the person make you feel more motivated that he can and should win? Would you say he is a very promising politician based on your personal knowledge of him?

(20,687 posts)But this one brings up a great question, what exactly are you aiming for when you make comments about your supposed personal relationships with these candidates? Is it a flex? Are we supposed to be in awe? Whats the point?
brooklynite
(96,882 posts)...what campaigns are actually doing and what politics is like in the real world, as opposed to the assertions of the blogosphere. Case in point: there are folks here who say Biden will win easily in November. Biden's campaign manager, who I've talked to directly, says it'll be close. Ditto, that election polls can be an accurate measure of current voter feelings.

(61,033 posts)will effect the vote. Short interviews with voters, mostly white men, mentioned crime, imigration, inflation the usual stuff but no one mentioned women's rights being snatched away.
Just imagine, in that far-from-Manhattan-where-immigrants-have-actually-been-dropped-off in, in that relatively well off enclave of suburbia that immigration is a pressing problem.
Oh the horror.

Each site has a 2 hour tally. Candidates do number crunching. But gotta go to each site physically. The elections dept posts numerous tallies for the entired county throughout the day on SM.

(37,389 posts)special elections in NY always are. But the question is how much lower is it because of the snow storm than it would have been? And how will that even lower turnout affect the outcome.
No way of knowing this.
brooklynite
(96,882 posts)edhopper
(37,389 posts)I truly don't know how the snow storm will affect this. Some have pointed out that early and mail in voting might have a bigger impact, and that favors the Dems. So that is positive.

(41,890 posts)He tells me the nor'easter was a complete bust. They got maybe 1" of snow and it was already melted by noontime. Manhattan schools called a snowday for no reason.
If people want to play Chicken Little, well OK, but this is just one more reason to have mailed ballots for all elections.
GuppyGal
(1,748 posts)FakeNoose
(41,890 posts)When it snows overnight or early morning, and causes unsafe driving conditions, the schools will call for a "2 hour" delay. So kids must be in the school building by 10 a.m. By doing this, it still counts as a full day of school. (Usually afterschool activities are cancelled on those days.)
This is to allow teachers and parents extra time to deal with delays caused by salt trucks and snowplows. In Pittsburgh we don't have subway trains like in Manhattan. So the transportation choices are the school bus or parents' driving.

'Cause neither party is gonna concede until every. last. vote. is counted. With the mail-in ballots, we're not gonna know for days.
