KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The mass shooting that unfolded amid throngs of people at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl celebration appeared to stem from a dispute between several people, authorities said Thursday.
Police Chief Stacey Graves said that the 22 people injured in the shooting ranged between the ages of 8 and 47 years old, half of whom were under the age of 16. A mother of two was also killed.
Three people were detained including two juveniles and firearms were recovered during the mayhem, police said. But investigators are calling for witnesses, people with cellphone footage and victims of the violence to call a dedicated hotline.
We are working to determine the involvement of others. And it should be noted we have recovered several firearms. This incident is still a very active investigation, Graves said at a news conference.

(17,802 posts)Some were injured by the crowd in the panic, at least that is what it sounds like.
Kids probably got trampled as people ran in panic.

(15,634 posts)also want to point out that many 'carriers' of firearms today - have absolutely zero knowledge, practice or skill level with their weapons. 'Spray' shooting is the frequent result. And, yeah - bystanders - that's just tough luck. Pretty much guaranteed that the majority of people shot had virtually nothing to do with either the 'target' or the beef.

(2,753 posts)We had one locally last year. Same thing. Dispute between parties and someone opens fire in a crowd. The only person killed had no relation to the people involved in the dispute.

(28,705 posts)the need to have a personal shoot out amongst a huge mass of celebrating children and very happy sports fans?
It had to have been more than a dispute. Too many children & adults were targeted or randomly injured for it to be a spur of the moment gunfight over a dispute.
But what do I know besides nothing?

Just like high school ball games. And what we see there - is it frankly doesn't matter that there's a crowd of people hanging around. 'Too bad, so sad'.
