opinions are like anal sphincters, virtually everyone has one, but some people suffer from diarrhea while others are undergoing the rigors of constipation.

I believe the key to remaining regular is in listening, (or reading if the case may be) and always be open to having your opinion being corrected without tying your identity to it.

You are not your opinion.

Thanks for the thread kentuck

Some people believe he is saying that opinion eats away at knowledge, that opinion causes us to selectively remember or forget facts and evidence, that we should stick with knowledge. Others believe Plato was arguing that opinion.is a stimulant, incentive to dig deeper into a subject and debate it, seek additional knowledge, etc. I lean toward the second idea, which seems consistent with the Socratic method. Just my two cents.

on edit- it neglects experience, both subjective and objective, which is bleh. Opinion is less a medium through which knowledge flows and is more of a trial and error approach to understanding reality. Opinion only holds up until it runs into reality. But experience exists as both subjective and objective phenomenon and something extra is required to distinguish between the two.
