ABC: FBI informant charged with lying about Joe and Hunter Biden's ties to Ukrainian energy company

WASHINGTON -- An FBI informant has been charged with fabricating a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme involving President Joe Biden, his son Hunter and a Ukrainian energy company, a claim that is central to the Republican impeachment inquiry in Congress.

Alexander Smirnov falsely reported to the FBI in June 2020 that executives associated with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid Hunter and Joe Biden $5 million each in 2015 or 2016, prosecutors said in an indictment. Smirnov told his handler that an executive claimed to have hired Hunter Biden to “protect us, through his dad, from all kinds of problems,” according to court documents.

Prosecutors say Smirnov in fact had only routine business dealings with the company in 2017 and made the bribery allegations after he “expressed bias” against Joe Biden while he was a presidential candidate.

The informant’s claims have been central to the Republican effort in Congress to investigate the president and his family, and helped spark what is now a House impeachment inquiry into Biden. An attorney for Hunter Biden, who is expected to give a deposition later this month, said the charges show the probe is "based on dishonest, uncredible allegations and witnesses.”

So the informant that the MAGA Republicans in Congress were using to bring about
impeachment charges against President Biden is now in jail and charged with lying
to the FBI?

For several months, Comer in particular publicly pushed for the release of an FBI interview form documenting the allegation — an allegation provided to the bureau by an informant who claimed to have been told about the bribe by a Ukrainian businessman. Grassley slowly leaked out new details from the interview document, such as a claim that there might be telephone recordings of the parties involved in the alleged bribe, including President Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. Eventually, Grassley released the whole document.

As it turns out, the Justice Department was working on the verifiability of the allegation. On Thursday, it unsealed an indictment: The informant who alleged that he’d been told about the bribe had allegedly made the whole thing up.

So Comer didn’t know that the FBI informant, Smirnov, was lying about all those Biden,
Burisma (spelling ?), and bribery charges? Come on A.G. Garland where is a special
prosecutor on Comer using false information to try and get the Biden’s? As you pointed
out in your post.

3. I read the entire

indictment and he not only very apparently lied because travel records do not match up anywhere close to the dates he claims meetings took place but he also claimed Hunter was in Ukraine when he was there despite Hunter having never been to Ukraine. All of apparently what were only a few meetings that Burisma involved Hunter in were done remotely.

A very interesting note also is that, when this guy knew he was starting to be questioned about his previous statements to the FBI, he went and had consultations with several Russian officials. He then changed some of his story and he freely admits the meetings with the Russians.

It looks as though this may have been little more than a Russian operation all along and it's pretty easy to guess where this joker would flee to if able to get out.

Who paid the informant (DISinformant?) to lie to the FBI? Was he on Putin's payroll, or mini-Putin's?

5. My guess is that it was Russian Oligarch Olge Daripaska.

He was paying the dirty FBI agent in NYC who rat fucked HRC in ‘16 and he paid for Tony DeVolder (Santos) campaign in 2022. Or it could have been Gini Thomas and friends.

10. As a boy in N.W. PA in a middle class neighborhood our next door neighbor was the county D.A.

and his brother was Ray Shafer, Governor of the State. A finer man as you would never meet
in your life and he was for education, playing 🏀 ball with the kids in the neighborhood, supported
Infrastructure, civil rights, the environment, being a real life WW II hero, decriminalizing marijuana,
being kind to each other, and he was a Republican too. Those days are long gone. Comer had
to have known that Smirnov wasn’t clean.

Why haven't any media or elected officials been held to the same standard here? I'd think that the GOP and RW media's loss of credibility over false reporting and depending on an individual who lied should send shockwaves through both and heads would start to roll, right?

We're not talking a doctored TRUE report, we're talking a completely fabricated lie that both the GOP and RW media have stated as true. Firings en-masse should be well understood and widespread!
