Yet again the NYT sucks.
The president will face a politically divided community anxious over the long-term health consequences of an environmental disaster.
One year after a fiery train derailment spilled thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio, President Biden will travel there on Friday and face a politically divided community anxious over the long-term health consequences of an environmental catastrophe.
Mr. Biden, who promised to visit soon after the disaster, has faced criticism from Republicans and some residents for not going sooner. In a sign of how politically fraught the situation has become, Trump supporters planned a rally to coincide with Mr. Bidens visit.

The 'one year too late' is a Republican propaganda campaign talking point and is being regurgitated by multiple 'news' sources.
Just reminder that our republic is facing an existential threat from the overtly authoritarian Republican Party. Trump et al have made it abundantly clear that they will do everything in their power to establish one party rule. But sure NYT, keeping pushing the talking points out. After all the important thing is to provide a 'balanced perspective'.

(14,626 posts)What we ought to be discussing is how to make our rail transport system safe, not some bullshit optics non-issue. As always these are intentional diversions. That in fact is what Biden is going to discuss. You wouldn't know that because our media is too busy regurgitating the PR release from GOP central.
OH my Gawd It took HiM A Years!!!!!!!

(120,001 posts)Presidential visits are disruptive, involving a huge entourage and all manner of security requirements and demands on local law enforcement. There's nothing he could have done at the time by just being there that would have helped the situation.

NYT has borderline jumped the shark with some of this recent slanted coverage. Yes, I know they have always bent over backwards in favor of the """both sides""" bullshit, but what their coverage of Biden lately has not only been head-scratching -- it's been downright deplorable.

(14,626 posts)"Mr. Biden is expected to give remarks on Friday detailing his administrations effort to help residents of East Palestine, as well as outline measures to hold accountable Norfolk Southern, the operator of the freight train carrying the toxic chemicals."
That is the actual story, the rest is a regurgitation of the GOP talking point.
