I read a report that Reuters Ipsos conducted a poll that showed 67% of voters were "tired of the same candidates" for the Presidency on the ballot. Furthermore, and the part that worries and troubles me the most, is that 18% went on and said if Biden and Trump were the choices in the general election, they would choose to not vote. We had a similar issue in the family back when it was Clinton v. Trump and the brother in law, an airline pilot so not uneducated, noted that he could not pull the lever for either one and would sit it out on the Presidential question. My argument then and my point now is that the somewhat sad part about our or any democracy is that it does not always give us perfect choices BUT we voters, I think, have s duty to look at the possibly imperfect options presented and make the BEST of the choices for the country. My great sadness as a veteran and student of US history, is that the freedoms and democracy so many served, fought for and some died for is taken for granted and so many eligible voters just don't bother. I will always accept the outcomes of free and fair elections whether they go as I would like or not, but PLEASE America, vote!

(28,836 posts)This is nothing new. We can only try to appeal to them and if they want to pretend that the future of the country isn't at stake, there isn't much we can do about it.
In the end, we just have to outvote them in the states that matter. Same as every other election.

Dobbs will ensure higher turnout.

(24,044 posts)If people are coming out of the woodwork to vote for Dems in special elections, which usually have the absolute lowest turnout, then they will vote for Dems this November.

Obama Loses Ground in 2012 Reelection Bid
In GOP, Romney Leads, Attentive Like Perry, Bachmann Most Visible
The sizeable lead Barack Obama held over a generic Republican opponent in polls conducted earlier this year has vanished as his support among independent voters has fallen off.Currently, 41% of registered voters say they would like to see Barack Obama reelected, while 40% say they would prefer to see a Republican candidate win in 2012. In May, Obama held an 11-point lead.
This shift is driven by a steep drop-off in support for Obama among independents. The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted July 20-24 among 1,501 adults and 1,205 registered voters finds that just 31% of independent voters want to see Obama reelected, down from 42% in May and 40% in March. Where Obama held a slim 7-point edge among independent registered voters two months ago, a generic Republican holds an 8-point edge today.
This is consistent with a drop in Obamas approval among all independents. Currently, a majority (54%) disapprove of Obamas performance for the first time in his presidency. His approval among independents has slipped to 36% from 42% last month and 49% in late May.

(2,526 posts)People always say they want a different choice. It's politics not show business. I don't want to be excited - I want a competent rational human to lead the country.

(24,044 posts)Im not worried about any polls, least of all, NH.
The risk of third party voters is far greater than non voters.
With Dobbs, its almost guaranteed voter turnout will increase significantly, especially among young people.

(12,755 posts)They want desperately to fall in love with a candidate like Obama or Bernie Sanders. I hear a lot of people complain about the "old white men" that they have to choose from. When I ask who they would prefer, they have no answer.

(77,265 posts)Not sure what they hoped to accomplish with this poll.
People being "tired" of the "same of candidates" doesn't automatically to low turnout.
It could, but this is proof of nothing.

(2,047 posts)With no understanding of the history & struggles of the two parties, they're left with nothing but the superficial personality of the candidates. And if this presidential election is just another shallow personality contest to so many voters, there is reason for concern.

Nah, these voters will find some other excuse for not voting. Both parties are the same, etc.

(10,349 posts)At least in part, because our only remaining "TV station" (WMUR-9) is A) Owned by Hearst B)Makes BANK from political ads! C) News personnel are angling for lucrative, political jobs through WMUR/Saint Anslems College "institute for politics" that hosts debates, interviews, etc during our "historic, first in the nation" primary..
Which is also why many potential voters deliberately avoid "politics" in the news. In order for Trump (or several other Repubs) to appear to be a rational choice, WMUR has to make Joe Biden the Antichrist!
