(85,447 posts)I cant imagine hed be so ignorant to go through a border crossing this way. That said, there was a US state senator arrested in Hong Kong with a gun and got into a fight with the cops. So there are some significant levels of ignorance and delusion in the RW world.

(32,967 posts)you don't piss with the Border agents. I had all my work papers in order but the Border patrol wanted to know why Canadians couldn't do my job? I told him I work with Canadian workers so that we get the job finished quicker and we both make more money.
Some of our workers were detained for an hour. I learned about using honey instead of vinegar.

(13,550 posts)and he told me that one of the questions they would ask, mostly those travelling in motorhomes, was if they had jewellry or other expensive items (many were happy to brag) and if they did, they knew to search for firearms. That was long before the gun violence was so bad. The others were people travelling through to Alaska, who thought because they were just passing through to get to another US state, they could bring their firearms. Never a good idea.

(45,013 posts)Presumably, he's referring to not having to admit that he's carrying weapons whether he has a permit, has them concealed, or not. But being able to do that legally where he's "from" DOESN'T automatically make it legal EVERYWHERE ELSE in the world!!!

(9,188 posts)always amazes me how some people think it's going to be "funny" to make a joke when the Canadian Border Guard asks you about guns or alcohol. You'll find out in a quick hurry it was the wrong move. They don't give a crap about you "were joking". If you are not straight with them don't be surprised if you now find yourself detained for a good long time while they search every inch of you and your vehicle and contact the US authorities and see if you are a felon etc. Thought you were being funny? Answer their questions in a straight forward and prompt manner and you'll 9 times out of 10 go straight through with no problem. But if you want to push it you will find out they are not f'ng around.

(23,452 posts)For his crime, his treasured gun is getting destroyed.
However, if you carry it with you and you don't declare it, like this republican did while traveling to Hong Kong, it could be up to 14 years in prison and $12,000 in fines.
Isn't it wonderful how insulated il-liberals are from the world around them? As a couple comments pointed out:
A responsible firearm owner knows where their guns are at all times. This guy is a clown.
Nobody seemingly ever 'realizes' they 'accidentally packed their firearm' in their baggage.

(58,191 posts)It was over 30 years ago and I was with my sister, BIL, and my 19 year old son. We arrived in Victoria by boat. My son and I were asked to step into another area and were questioned about our trip to Guatemala. They wouldn't allow me to tell my sister where we were nor our hotel transport. After they had taken our Arkansas driver's licenses and made some phone calls, we were released. It took around 50 minutes. I was in tears and told my sis and hotel driver I wanted to go home.
Eventually I recovered from my embarrassment and calling Canada bad names. We think it was my son that lead to us being really checked out. He looked like a drug smuggler in a B-rated movie. Long hair, bushy beard, and black clothes. And the recent trip to Central America.
