"Christian" family moves to Russia to escape LGBTQ, and now can't wait to leave their living hell

The patriarch of a right-wing Canadian family of eight had just about enough of the gay people existing in his country. “We didn't feel safe for our children there in the future anymore. There's a lot of left-wing ideology, LGBTQ, trans, just a lot of things that we don't agree with that they teach there now, and we wanted to get away from that for our children.”

Yeah, if there’s one place that’s just not safe for kids, it’s Canada. Russia would be sooo much safer.

So mom and dad sold everything they had to move to sunny Russia to raise their kids in “orthodox” values. They also gladly took donations on their social media platform from fellow right-wingers so they could live in Putin’s wonderland. They did all of this just three weeks ago, and Russian officials assured them that they would work with them to get them established, and even help them get a farm. Long story short, they lived happily ever after.

Except they didn’t.

First off, the Russian bank where they moved their funds immediately froze their assets. The amount of money seemed suspicious, as I guess it would since most Russians outside of Putin’s circle are dirt poor. As a result, the family doesn’t have money to live on, and those nice Russian officials disappeared.

Back in the '80s when I visited the USSR with my grandmother and her peace group, the only ones who actually attended churches were the WWII generation. The churches we visited were treated mostly as museums and tourist attractions and they contained a lot of the riches that inspired the Russian Revolution.

as belief in religion is contrary to the doctrine of glorious revolution where the workers throw off the bonds of repressive institutions including the church (religion is the opiate of the masses, etc). So he's moved to a country with a 90 year history of actively suppressing religion hoping to find a Christian paradise. D'oh.

And yes, Russia isn't a communist country any more but culturally it is still working through the repercussions of church attendance being effectively banned for generations.

As a side note, when I taught in China our school threw a Halloween party where all the teachers had to dress up and lead activities. I went as a fortune teller and was later told off by the school because fortune telling is illegal in China as something that promotes superstition.

So yeah, wake up and taste the freedom!

And, as I said, there were so many churches, furnished with so much gold, but they mainly served as museums and tourist venues - including St. Basil's (which we couldn't visit since there was work being done on it at the time), but we saw it at the foot of The Kremlin.

And we were there in September, the first day of school, and we saw young students and their parents visiting there since it was a tradition for children to have their pictures taken next to St. Basil's to mark the start of the school year, at least that's what we were told.

And when I saw all that gold, both in churches and museums (the Armory in the Kremlin), I began to understand what sparked te Russian Revolution.

That poor mom! I remember this family we were friends with - before we moved to California. Six kids. And by the time #6 arrived, the mom was so thin and sickly that you never saw her dressed in anything but her bathrobe. I was really young then, but her frail condition actually bothered me, and made me wonder about the wear ‘n’ tear of all those pregnancies.

And I’d look at her husband who was fit as a fiddle and even back then I felt pissed off at him - hey dude, have you even bothered to notice that you’re literally fucking your poor wife to death?

…that they moved away from a relatively safe country because they didn’t want to be around people whose lifestyle they didn’t approve of even though they’d never have more than casual interaction with them…

to a country that is not only extremely dangerous, but one in which they’re completely helpless. Imagine they’d moved to Poland, which is as anti-gay as Russia is. Since the Polish language uses basically the same alphabet as English does - there are extra letters in it and a Polish Scrabble set has A LOT of Z’s in it, but the base 26 letters are the same - they could have at least read street signs and food labels. But Russia uses the Cyrillic alphabet, which is completely different. They can’t even buy a can of beans for dinner if there isn’t a picture of beans on the label.

Assuming they have IQs that are higher than in single digits, HOW could they have so brainwashed as to do what they did? It's a good thing they weren't at Jonestown, or every one of them, children included, would have been dead by now.

Tue Feb 20, 2024, 04:36 PM
Feb 2024

Of all the countries in the world, Putin's Russia IMO would not be the place to go for a family from a liberal democracy like Canada.

First of all there's Putin and his dictatorship.

Secondly, Russia is waging an unjust war against another nation, meaning all sorts of negative things can happen at any time (like their money being frozen/stolen probably).

Thirdly, sanctions are already in play and more are to come because of Navalny's death.

There's the language thing, and a myriad of hundreds of other reasons to look elsewhere.

Not a smart move. What were they thinking.
