CNN
Israeli forces fired on a United Nations convoy carrying vital food supplies in central Gaza on February 5, before ultimately blocking the trucks from progressing to the northern part of the territory, where Palestinians are on the verge of famine, according to documents shared exclusively by the UN and CNNs own analysis.
CNN has seen correspondence between the UN and the Israeli military that show the convoys route was agreed upon by both parties prior to the strike. According to an internal incident report compiled by UNRWA, the main UN relief agency in Gaza, which was also seen by CNN, the truck was one of 10 in a convoy sitting stationary at an IDF holding point when it was fired upon.
CNN reviewed satellite imagery taken two hours after the incident that shows three Israeli missile boats a few kilometers offshore. These boats have formed part of a regular deployment since the start of the war, which the IDF has said is aimed at conducting surveillance and attacking Gaza from the west. In December, the IDF said their navy had struck hundreds of targets and provided support to soldiers on the ground.
Its really difficult to see how this could be a legal attack, Janina Dill, co-director at Oxford Universitys Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict, told CNN of the February 5 incident. At a minimum it would look like a very serious violation of international humanitarian law. Whether its also criminal then depends on questions of intent, which is something that needs to be established in a court of law.

(13,283 posts)and then pulling conclusions as baseless as they are opinionated out of their sphincters.
A tweet is not evidence of anything. A second-hand account is no evidence. Absence of an immediate comment is no evidence. A potentially conceivable, but by no means potentially exclusive source of origin of potential munition that was geolocated hours after the incident is no evidence.
Yet, CNN's poor excuse for investigative reporting comes to a preconceived conclusion that fits with its biased narrative rather than, as they claim, available facts: Israel is the villain.
Pardon me for being utterly underwhelmed, as usual.

(13,283 posts)Then you agree with the narrative that has defined a villain way before they started their "investigation".
The CNN article begins with painting Israel as a villain, and there is not a single fact that they present to justify their premise.
Is this what you agree with? Do you recall whether you agreed with the BBC article that blamed Israel for bombing the Al Ahli hospital, only to apologize profusely for their fuck-up when the facts of a Hamas rocket landing in the hospital yard became undeniably evident?

This contradicts everything CNN stated, beginning with the first sentence in their article: "Israeli forces fired on a United Nations convoy carrying vital food supplies in central Gaza on February 5, before ultimately blocking the trucks from progressing."
As per CNN, who claim to have seen the report, the convoy was not "ultimately blocked" It stopped for a scheduled inspection, and only then it was hit. Apparently, the source and the direction of the fire were not identified in the report. There is no hint of an attempt to identify the projectile that hit the truck, which, judging by the damage shown in the photos of the truck in question, is more consistent with a hand grenade or an explosive charge carried by a commercial drone than any weapons system typical of a naval vessel: it appears that the damage caused by the explosion does not extend beyond a three-foot circumference immediately adjacent to the damaged side of the truck. Seeing that photo, CNN's assertion that "much of its contents mainly wheat flour desperately needed to bake bread were destroyed." sounds more like a tasteless joke than an accurate description. And the onlything in the report that CNN is using to reach its ridiculous conclusion of Israel's culpability is... get ready... " 'naval gunfire was heard, and the truck was hit, the report said.' ". Sorry CNN, this kind of bullshit is not even going to get you out of a jaywalking ticket.
And, even if all of this CNN crap is to be believed on its face and not ever questioned, not a single brilliant CNN editor asked themselves a simple question: how much sense does it make for an Israeli warship to fire a single round of... whatever it was that was fired, into an Israeli checkpoint full of Israeli truck inspectors checking the contents of trucks one of which they are hitting?
Jeez!...

(20,391 posts)Doing some research on Israeli naval ships, it appears the most likely weapon would be the ship-mounted 76mm autocannon. But even this would cause FAR more damage than the picture shown; the HE round used for land assaults packs a punch. That truck shouldn't be in one piece if either a ship-fired shell or a missile hit it.
