I remember the day I found DU. I’m sure it was from a mention about it on Bartcop.

The Bush years. Oh boy.

And you're right, we've sure been through some stuff, the Bush* years (I was devastated by the 2004 election, little did we know...) and the invasion of Iraq, I was here the night of "shock and awe." That was one of the toughest. Kudos to you for hanging in there!

12. First Dem vote was for Al Gore. Discovered DU in the early Bush years. Been here ever since.

My memory isn't very specific as to the year I found DU. I remember thinking, "is there some place for a liberal democrat like me? Maybe something subversive, like 'democratic underground.'" So I typed it in and found this wonderful place, and I don't think I have gone a single day since without checking in. I rarely posted to DU, if at all, in those first years. I had posted some on BartCop (RIP) as well, but generally didn't enjoy all the confrontational responses. I still don't post much, but I sure have/do read a whole damned lot of articles and the posts from DUers.

Honestly, I don't know how I would have kept it all together during the last two and a half decades of history, and my strange life, without DU and everyone who comes here, day in and out. I wish I could meet you all, crack some beers and give some big Demnation bear hugs to every one of you.
