I'm not sure what our snow accumulation has been, so far, but I bet it is less than 6".

(2,355 posts)81-82 i think theyd just put the finishing touches on the new freeway (was it the 405?). Rents were still decent, there werent half as many people there.

(4,135 posts)if you looked hard enough. Expensive for a married E-3 jarhead. Utilities weren't bad. Managed to get into a 1-bed unfurnished a block and 1/2 away from Ocean Beach for $350, one summer's month utility was less than $20. Got warm, opened windows, let ocean breeze blow through. Hardly had gas oven on, microwave was just getting into the spotlight.

Our outdoor hockey league here in Chicago has been canceled the last three years because- well, we just don't have winter anymore. I hate climate change.

(132,440 posts)tomorrow snow. crazy, yes, but typical here. My onions are coming up, my roses are leafing and budding, a friend's lilac tree has been budding for weeks. Pretty sure a major freeze in March or April will get them!

(12,240 posts)I'm thinking that WeatherUnderground and that particular weather station is wonky.
The news there says it will be a low of around 50 tomorrow instead of 20.
There isn't severe weather coming other than cool weather coming from Canada on Wednesday.
Stay safe in St. Louis!!!
SWBTATTReg
(26,257 posts)like this first wave of decent warm Spring weather has bought out the crazies in weather forecasting, you go on YouTube, there are dozens of want-to-be weather forecasters calling for potential severe weather in a block including STLMO (a big chunk of MO, not KCMO, plus points east of STLMO).
More than likely, this will be a bust, but still...I'm keeping my eye on the weather in the meantime. Supposedly supposed to start late tonight, continue on for the next couple of days.
chowder66
(12,240 posts)I have to say today's forecast is pretty much on target.
It just changed. It's 78 right now in her area and it's supposed to drop to 49, then tomorrow they have 79 and now down to 19. That is a 60 degree drop.

(17,740 posts)be 77in KCMO and 75 tomorrow midday, but then a radical drop in temperature during the afternoon and frozen precipitation tomorrow night. Can you say weather whiplash.
chowder66
(12,240 posts)but I think that station is wonky. I watched the KCTV5 segment and it said it would drop down to about 50.
Freaked me out for a minute. I mean the highs are crazy for this time of year as it is!!
Rebl2
(17,740 posts)will happen late in the day Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

(12,240 posts)I wish I was there right now. Coming from KCMO to L.A. I find the weather here boring. The only thing I don't miss is the heat with humidity.
Rebl2
(17,740 posts)meteorologist that worked here for many years that grew up in CA, and he said the same thing. Weather was boring growing up there. He went to meteorology school in OK and got a job in KC. He always said Midwest was the most difficult weather to predict and he enjoyed doing the weather here. He retired a couple of years ago and I still miss his weather reports and his personality as well as his love for our city.

(24,973 posts)Until fairly recently there was a popular meteorologist at our local ABC station here in San Francisco, but he left to go back to KC where he was from. I think his name was MIke Nicco, something like that. He was good.
Rebl2
(17,740 posts)is the meteorologist that replaced Gary Lezak -its an NBC affiliate. Mike Nicco has been great since he moved here to work. Yes he apparently lived here when he was young, not sure where. Maybe he just wanted to be closer to family thats likely getting older.

(4,135 posts)Early warmth only affects the fruit trees normally, as they can begin to bud, and a late freeze kills the buds. A dry, warm early spring can result in crops getting in early, rain usually has more effect than temperatures later in season. Can't get seed out when you have a swamp for a field.
ProfessorGAC
(76,698 posts)It might hit 75° tomorrow here. It's 71° right now.
Drops to a high of 34° on Wednesday that climbs back up to the 70s by next Sunday.
Chaotic weather systems will do that. Too much overall heat causes chaos.
Not sure why this is so hard for the deniers to understand.

(2,047 posts)Tomorrow (Tues) it's to be like summer, in the 70's F, but by 6 am Wed, it will be 29 F (a bit cold for this late in Feb).
Then back to spring or mid-autumn weather on Thurs.
I'm thinking its gonna be a remarkable bit of cyclonic action, pulling in warm air as it arrives and then on passing bringing in the northern "Hawk".
At least the cold won't last long, the past month of mild has left me very spoiled

(24,207 posts)We had 10 days of Winter in January. It was 60 degrees on Xmas. We had 1 big snowstorm with cold temps and then just a couple other small snowfalls. That one big week of snow dropped 33 inches so its going to be misleading for the season snowfall total.
Never seen anything like this. Going to push 70 tomorrow before Summer like thunderstorms come through.
Last Winter was heavy for snow at 109 total, but it was still weird. It would drop 20 inches of snow in one day and then warm up to 55 the next week so it was constantly melting. Did that like 4 times.

(60,182 posts)Meanwhile, about a 2 hour flight south of here in Spain, they had a drought so severe that much of their olive crop failed, and the price of olive oil went up so much that even the imported stuff, usually of inferior quality, but currently five times as expensive, is now kept behind locked display cases like you sometimes see in drug stores.

(24,207 posts)Its never hit 70 in February in Grand Rapids before in recorded history.
I realize El Nina and everything, but this Winter has been frightening in its mildness. And seasonal weather patterns can vary greatly, but its hard not to see global warming in this. Absolutely unprecedented Winter. Too many just 100 year events to recount.
Biggest tornado outbreak in state history this Summer.
Went to the UP in late September this year and it was almost 80.
It was 60 degrees on Christmas Day.
We had snow on the ground for like a few weeks total.
Just incredible. I always wanted to live in a place with milder Winters, guess I just had to wait instead of move. But the other consequences could be awful.

It was seventy-ish 3 weeks ago, then we dropped to 3-10 degrees for 6 days straight.
