The Top Muslim State Lawmaker in Michigan Wants You to Turn on Joe Biden

In late October, the Democratic floor leader of the Michigan House of Representatives, Abraham Aiyash, stood in front of thousands gathered in downtown Detroit to denounce a man who is vying to win another four years in the Oval Office.

He spoke with the same urgency he had in 2020, when he addressed another crowd in Detroit to condemn then-President Donald Trump’s attempt to halt the vote count in the critical swing state. But now, he had a different target in mind.

“We’re talking about Joe Biden,” Aiyash bellowed from a raised platform into a sea of red, white, green and black flags rippling in the wind — the colors of the Palestinian flag. “He stood with no spine and did not demand peace for the Palestinians, did not demand peace for the Israelis — but instead, continues to fund a genocide.”

At just 28 years old, Aiyash rocketed into political prominence last year, becoming the first Arab American House majority leader in history. Now 30, he’s emerged as one of Biden’s fiercest Democratic critics over the administration’s support for Israel. He’s shot down bipartisan legislation regarding Israel, ruffled feathers on both sides of the aisle and drawn national headlines for taking part in high-profile protests of the war. Now, he is planning to use Tuesday’s presidential primary as a warning: If Biden continues to financially support Israel’s offensive in Gaza and fails to call for a permanent cease-fire, Michigan’s Arab American voters could bring their animosity to the polls — or stay home. Aiyash has signed onto a “Listen to Michigan” campaign, pledging to vote “uncommitted” on Tuesday and urging other Democrats to do the same. As for the general election, if Biden doesn’t budge, Aiyash said he’s genuinely conflicted about how to vote. He’s considering leaving the top of his ticket blank.

Leaving the top of the ticket blank is the same as voting for Trump.
You know, trump, the guy that wants to build concentration camps and deport millions.

or some bullshit exception or kick back.

Maybe kill some legislation out of spite. You know, every day since forever garbage.

Trying to put Chump back in the Whitehouse at this point is straight up an enemy action.

If he wants to run or support a licketysplit opponent or what's his farce if he is on the ballot there.

That is foolish but fair game but a straight undermine in favor of nobody is electioneering for fascism.

Fuck that guy. That isn't being a Democrat!

That isn't being a good American of any description.

In fact, it is being a crap citizen of the world.

There is nothing happening on this globe that Agolf Shittler is going to make better or that Biden won't allow for far better outcomes.

If one can't see that they are for real blind, weapons grade stupid, evil, or batshit crazy.
Quadrupley so if that deluded soul considers themselves to the left of Putin or Khomeini.

But I do think the best way to be combat this effectively is to peel away some of his supporters with cooler rhetoric.

That was surely a mistake (as evidenced by the results). And it seems like progressives - whatever that term really means - are prone to a lot of these kind of (self inflicted) mistakes.

( and I deliberately say 'whatever that term means' - for the reason that a lot of friends are self described 'progressive' - while seeming not at all prone to the wild eyed flailing about that I reference here )

They'll really be unhappy with deportations and detention centers here in the US under Trump. And who will be populating those detention centers? It will be anyone Trump and his lackeys consider 'others' and/or those disloyal to the Trumpian game plan.

But please, continue the Passion Play. The world's going to look a whole lot different next year if Trump wins. As for Gaza? Trump will be cheering Netanyahu on to turn the whole frigging area and its people to glass.

This short-sighted view of the world? Absolutely deadly.

They started voting democratic after because Republicans became very anti Muslim.

But I think for many their position on other issues didn't change to be more liberal.

In fact many were already saying they would not support Democrats over lgbt issues.

„Can‘t deport a US citizen born in the USA,“ you say? You think a mere legality would stop Trump from ordering that? Do you think the current Supreme Court would stop him? And even if you hope they would, are you willing to bet your citizenship on it? Apparently, some Muslim Democrats in the Middle West are willing to bet their futures on just that. They don‘t seem to realize a second Trump term might mean they are forcibly removed from their homes in the Middle West, and dumped instead somewhere in the Middle East.
