...when advocating for a Joe Biden vote. It amounts to a false equivariance. By stating that, you are conceding that both Trump and Biden are evil, just Biden a little less so. I saw that over and over again with Hilary in 2016. That type of bullshit statement pushes people to third parties or gives cover for others to vote for Trump.
"The lesser of two evils" is very rarely applicable. In most case, there are two good people, and one is better than another. I'm thinking Stevenson and Eisenhower or Obama and McCain. The only time in history that I can recall that the phrase "lesser of two evils" was appropriate was Stalin and Hitler during World War II. I think we can all agree that those two men were both evil, but Hitler more so. Churchill and FDR had to make that decision.
I think we can all agree that Trump is evil. We can argue about degrees, but that's a very bad man. By the same token, one or more of us can disagree with Biden on an issue or two, but he's a good man.
Please don't use that phrase when advocating for Biden. It does all of us a disservice.

...especially in posts about Gaza. But I'm not just talking about this board. In conversations I hear others say they are voting for Biden because "he's the lesser of two evils". I correct that person and use the OP as my talking point.
I just thought I'd throw this out there so others could do the same.

(29,290 posts)they weren't calling Hillary evil, don't be silly.
That's what the (excuse me) fucking idiom means: two evil things.
Another anti-Democratic propaganda redefinition of language.

"We need a campaign -- an election -- coming up which does not have two candidates who are really very, very strongly disliked. I don't want to see the American people voting for the lesser of two evils. I want the American people to be voting for a version of economic justice, of racial justice. That is the campaign we are running, and that's why we are getting the support we are."
George Stephanopolous: "Is that how you would describe Hillary Clinton against Donald Trump -- as the lesser of two evils?
"Well if you look -- No, I wouldn't describe it, but that's what the American people are saying."
What was THAT? That's "progressive"?

(96,882 posts)To a lot of undecided voters, neither Biden nor Trump is an attractive choice. Unless you have an alternative way to address that voter angst, a relative benefit argument may make the most sense.
