Reminds me of Mi'ssippi, where the public works director of an important public institution went from having a modest house - to a big, ole MacMansion in the outskirts (with acreage).
His very, shall we say, rustic wife used to parade about town, with her poofy hairdos, like the Queen of Rumania.
It was well known that he was "keeping the change" from a lot of contracts - but he was a good ole boy, and thus untouchable.

But, their relationship is so unimportant-
We need for this Ass of a judge to do the right thing here and keep Fanni on the case!

Unfortunately for the trumpers, her home was also within the same area as numerous bars, restaurants, retail stores, and many homes, apartments and condos. In other words, he was hanging out and spending time in a popular area of Atlanta. That's what they've got.

He geotagged the pings around tower A (2000') and around tower B (3000'). That's where her house was. Well, somewhere in there. In an Urban area, with lots of houses, bars, restaurants...
The 2000' radius, IIRC, was to avoid I75, so they didn't catch him going to work.

(199 posts)There has been no lie told. You have willis snd wade saying they started dating after he was hired. One disgruntled employee yeartie thinks it was earlier but she has motivation to tell a story and Bradley just said he didnt actually see anything and was speculating.

Regardless of who paid, the vacations dont even come close to some sort of financial incentive to bring the cases.
Thats the standard - there has to be a financial incentive for a financial conflict to exist. Are we supposed to believe Willis brought the multi-year multi-million dollar case so she could go to Belize? Nonsense.
Other than that there is no conflict as spelled out in the law or the case law. There is no forensic misconduct - which is the third reason listed for disqualification.
Based on the defenses best case, there is no there there. The rest is all salacious nonsense.

(4,738 posts)trump is still likely guilty. But considering this is a big case, the distraction shouldn't have happened.
Now that it has and the judge didn't handle it in chambers weeks ago, there is a real question whether trump will ever go to trial in Georgia. This should have been a slamdunk because we have trump on tape. But now it's a mess.

Wonder Why
(3,813 posts)to get his case dismissed because he is otherwise going to lose. No evidence it had anything to do with race as far as I can see even if others have used the racial aspects to promote more hate.
But in any case, the real blame belongs on the couple. How two highly intelligent people could not anticipate that this kind of trash would come out and that no matter how unrelated it is to their work or Trump's guilt is beyond me. It is more an example like so many in power that somehow nobody will see and if they do, nobody will care. "The media will never find out or report it if they do" went out in the '60s with Kennedy's peccadilloes.
I can only hope the judge will rightly decide that the trial should go forward but she has given Trump a great opportunity to delay the trial, create appeals and to sow doubt about the testimony (because of doubt about her) when he had absolutely no out left at all.
I'm sorry. She did it to herself. No ifs, ands or buts. I support her but that doesn't count. Trump and his sleazy lawyers have no morals but that is no excuse for making it easy for them to get away.

(3,813 posts)he's white but because he is the target of honest people wanting justice, not a criminal demanding retribution. You can't compare the two.
Willis and Wade should have known that Trump and his lawyers would probably find out and blow it up. Had they mentioned up front of their relationship, it would have been a no brainer. But by letting Trump expose it, they look bad. I never said what they did was bad but looking like you are hiding something means that the other side can have a field day putting the worst light on the topic at the worst possible time. Obfuscation is an oft used Trump tool. All he wants or needs to do is to cast doubt and get one doubtful juror to look at the prosecutor instead of the evidence.
When Clarence the Clown was being vetted, his accuser, Anita Hill brought up his sexual harassment. What hurt her testimony, IMHO, was the fact that after she worked for him and he harassed her, he had changed jobs and then she followed him. Had her reasoning been explained up front, it might have made a big difference but coming out later made her testimony somewhat suspect and some people reserved judgement. The same with Willis and Wade. You know you have a private relationship with another person on the team and it will likely come out. Clear the air up front or your opposition will crucify you if they find out. That's something so many political figures just don't get.
Had they even brought it to the attention of the judge up front that this might be an impediment, he would have judged it to be unimportant or might have told them to break it off until the trial was over to avoid a potential conflict of interest or an impediment. In any case, it would no longer have been an issue Trump could use.

(3,022 posts)When you say, " All he wants or needs to do is to cast doubt and get one doubtful juror to look at the prosecutor instead of the evidence."
You believe there's going to be evidence of all this bullshit during the trial?
Or do you believe Willis' office can't do effective voir dire?
Also, you seem to be confused about what is being claimed here. Pretty sure no one in that courtroom is talking about "conflict of interest." Because there isn't one.
The claim at issue is, fantastically, misappropriation of funds, at its essence.

(4,587 posts)if anybody thinks that some of the various many defense lawyers, their clerks, their associates and their investigators aren't having relationships with each other or some of the defendants relatives etc. I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. It goes on all the time every day across the country and usually is no problem. My problem here is the judge, the trier of fact in this matter, holding a private meeting with a potential witness without the lawyers for the two sides being able to hear what is being proffered to the trier of fact. Then the supposed "important to hear from" witness, that was the judge's words, comes to the witness stand and has zilch other than "I don't know".
So somebody wants to apply a yardstick to conduct by parties for the prosecution but we are forbidden from being able to demand that the defense or the judge stand against that same yardstick. Unless everybody stands to that scrutiny then nobody stands to that scrutiny. That is called fair and equitable treatment and expectations and is what is supposed to be the rule in a court.
Wonder Why
(3,813 posts)and dot every "I" to avoid any chance of a conviction but on hold or overturned by Trump's friends on SCOTUS.
We both hope this is disposed of quickly.
Yes, I agree that parties all the time are in relationships they prefer not to make public but then again, how many of them are prosecutors with a critical case against Trump? Smith? Letitia James? All the judges (except Cannon who is on his side) in his cases? Anyone else?
You don't believe that Sleazy's sleazy lawyers haven't tried to find "dirt" on them? Sorry. I just don't see the evidence that this is a racial issue.

(4,587 posts)states have seen this all before over and over. It may not appear like it because it is not overt enough but black people know how this all goes and what is really behind it. They are familiar with a system that comes after them and how it's done. They can see this a mile away in the dead of night with their eyes closed.

Just NO. They did absolutely nothing wrong. That's why they weren't worried about this coming out, and it's why they thought no one would care if it did.
They did nothing wrong, and the fact that TSF's shysters are using this big, fat nothingburger to delay the the trial is what is scandalous. This foofaraw shouldn't even be happening, because THEY DID NOTHING WRONG.

(12,331 posts)My reply was to a poster that said the judge had to have 100% proof. That isn't true. My post had zero to do with the believability of any one witness, nor this specific case. The judge is going to consider all the testimony given and make a judgement based on that.

Well sing another song
Sing it with a spirit that will
Start the world along
Sing it as we used to sing it
Fifty thousand strong[N 1]
While we were marching through Georgia
Chorus:
Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee![N 2]
Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free!
So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea
While we were marching through Georgia
I am proud to state that two of my ancestors were with General Sherman,
when he took Atlanta, and then marched through the state to Savannah...
