With, of course, special consideration given to Steve Kornacki.

(36,538 posts)If three out of 300,000,000 are angry, it's not false to say, "People are angry."
We assume it means *most* or the vast majority are angry, but the lower bound isn't 90%, not 67%, not 50%, but 2 ... people.
Same for "scientists say" or " R) want" or "evangelicals believe". It's easy to manipulate people with bare plurals--and for the manipulative 'meme' to propagate readily.

(7,080 posts)Howard Dean. Then get it together for the election. If they put orange guy in they will be the first to be deported or put in camps. Proceed
that is a fact, if Slobfather gets near the WH, he will enact the Insurrection Act and start deporting and putting people on camps. Stephen Miller, that corpse was quite happy about flying people out of the US continuously.
Slobfather will not do anything about Gaza or his friend Bebe, Ukraine and will have Putin roll across to other border states and beyond.

(36,538 posts)I remember this kind of thing said about Bush II.
Even saw pictures here of where the camps were already built, road signs in place, and the logistics worked out to round up millions of people and incarcerate them.
It was the occasion of the most stunning take-down I've ever seen on DU. A DUer worked out how many C-130s would have to land to supply the inmates at one of the "already built" concentration camps if fully occupied. Turned out a C-130 would have to land, be fueled, unloaded, reloaded with anything leaving, and back in the air in somewhat less than a minute. And the number of C-130s required exceeded the number built--ever (IIRC).
My only contribution to the discussion was why all the road and other signs for the American camps built in the "heartland" were dual-language, English and Croatian. Oops. They used photographs from the civil war in Jugoslavija in the '90s and thought, somehow, Croatian was a good fit for Nebraska and Oklahoma--because so many there speak hrvacki.

Pretty snide, too.
Besides, what difference does it make if people don't like this turn of events?

(36,538 posts)NPR's "The Daily" (in which reporters interview reporters and present this as "news" or "important" ... A giant infomercial for the NYT, IMO) waxed 25 minutes long on this point. It's worrying them muchly. And they're torn.
They both like the reason for the "uncommitted" but have troubles accepting that it could endanger "our democracy" because Biden might ultimately not get votes needed to keep Michigan more blue than red and lose Biden EC votes. Okay, "troubles" is an understatement; I think they're scared shitless that it could cost (D) control of the WH. Why? Because in the end they concluded a lot of voters would return to vote for Biden but many see no difference between Trump and Biden on an issue they consider core. Then again, a lot of journalism privileges the anecdote over data, so who can say?
I would say I think it won't hurt in November, but I gave up prophecy when I said in 2016 there was no way Trump would win, not to worry. (Oops.)

(597 posts)We'll see if they hold, tho. Wayne County is going to really define its strength since that's where Dearborn is.
Keeping numbers under 20% would be a strong showing for Biden all things considered.

(10,117 posts)Where people are promising to not vote in the GE and actually say if Gaza gets destroyed than hopefully that will teach everyone a lesson.
Despite what Nina Turner says, not voting is still a vote for Trump.
To imply that people dying in Gaza "will teach us all a lesson" means you have made it about you and it was never about Palestinians or saving lives.

(5,410 posts)running unopposed, had an uncommitted vote of 20,000 in the 2012 Michigan Democratic primary....
Thus far, the uncommitted 'protest vote' seems insignificant, compared to previous 'uncommitted' votes
which did not have a CAUSE behind them....
I considered voting 'uncommitted' myself, because of Gaza,
but I am pleased that a long ceasefire seems to be in the works....
I thought about it, but I voted for President Biden in the primary,
as I will in November.
I am not angry at those who feel they need to send a message, I sympathize with them.
All Mixed Up
(597 posts)That's where Dearborn is and the heart of the 'Uncommitted' campaign. It's also the largest county in Michigan, so, it'll have an impact and it's not really reporting results at the moment.
But it does raise the question: what is and isn't a troubling sign?
In 2012, uncommitted came in at about 10.7% vs Obama.
Right now, uncommitted is doing about six-points better. That doesn't seem to be all that significant considering the hype around it.
But if Wayne County mirrors, say, Washtenaw, which is home to the University of Michigan, and uncommitted is at 24-25 points?
I think you start getting into that gray area.
DemocraticPatriot
(5,410 posts)Of course we could use all those voters, and I hope that most of them will ultimately come home to President Biden in November---
but frankly, their numbers are pretty small....
I hope that in November, even if they do NOT come home,
their numbers will be far eclipsed by the number of WOMEN
VOTING to protect their reproductive rights....
Certainly for pro-Palestinians and muslims,
the cause of the people of Gaza will not be advanced by them staying home,
and I am sure that hardly any of them will vote for Trump, based on his positions...

(597 posts)We'll see if it holds but Biden winning nearly 80% despite a significant campaign continues to show overall strong support with the base.

(5,410 posts)but they were defeated by 'uncommitted' by about a 10-1 margin.... hahahahahaha
and by President Biden by 50-1 or something--- sorry, I can't do the math at this moment!
