Some say it was a sneaker con all along. The 45th president came to Philly in mid-February and debuted before sneaker heads at the Sneaker Con his limited edition, golden bathed, red-soled "Never Surrender High-Tops" with Stars and Stripes accents for a $399 sticker price.
The Never Surrender sneakers were billed as "your rally cry in shoe form." And on his website the 1,000 run of the kicks had already sold out within hours. Two weeks later the shoes are being hawked online for a third of the price.
"I wonder how many gullible idiots bought a pair of Trumps 'Never Surrender' sneakers at the original $400 price," asked a Democratic campaign finance executive Jon Cooper. "You can now find them online for under $100, lol. Anyway, whatever price they pay, these MAGA morons will likely never get delivery. Its just another con, folks."
"The Never Surrender sneakers just surrendered 75% of their price," reads a tweet by Bob Clendenin. GOP pollster Frank Luntz joked: "The Never Surrender Trump sneakers have surrendered to the Deep Discount State."

They just photoshop a receipt. Put up a picture of the shoes. And run off with the money.
By July, they will be untouchable, even if the shoes do ship.

There are dozens of stores that suddenly popped up online selling them. From a quick Google search, several of them have already been shut down, but there are a lot still up and running.
I hope that the Jon Cooper quote was made up for the story, because a "Democratic campaign finance executive" shouldn't be falling for such an obvious fake.

Look at the screenshot. They're not even the same shoes. No T logo.

Or, it's like the Rightwing screed making the NYTs bestseller list, and finding copies a week later at the Dollar Tree discount bin.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/126353771364The shoes in the OP aren't the same shoes. They're knockoffs, if they even exist, and the stores selling them are fake. Of course, hardly anyone reads the responses so people still think the post is legit.
Edit: the ones on ebay are fake, too. Never mind!

(28,836 posts)There are dozens of stores that have popped up in the past couple weeks claiming to sell them for $99. They're all fake and they're all scams.
I can't believe a guy who is apparently a top-level fundraiser for Dems fell for this shit. All he had to do was look into the company behind the ad and he would have realized it was fake -- or just had some common fricking sense. Now, it's everywhere.
This is why ransomware is still prevalent. People just assume that everything online is true, and can't tell the fake from the real thing. At least he's not in charge of cybersecurity.

I got the Trump limited edition golden Sneakers, real gold, for .25. Free Shipping. (No refunds expect deliver after November 2024)

(20,870 posts)So there's a good chance someone painted a pair of high tops and put them online. There's no need to copy a Coach designer purse when these boobs are lined up to buy anything Trump related. Donald Trump has a brand problem and he doesn't want to do anything about it because it gets his name out there.
I see booths set up at events around the county hawking shirts, flags, poster, and anything else they can think of. I know damn well these are just opportunists cashing in on a fad. The good news here is not one dime of that money is making its way to Mar a Lago.
If those shoes are being copied, and they likely are, the only victims are those who spent money on the genuine version, and they deserve to be taken.

(28,836 posts)I was looking at this and another site at the same time. Thanks for the correction.
My point is that the OP is false, and I don't know why we keep falling for this shit. The Trump sneakers are not being sold for $99. Either the shoes are fake or the websites are.
The Shopify link just goes to Shopify. That doesn't mean anything. Anyone can copy the link/logo and paste it on their website.
Do a Google search for "never surrender sneakers" and look for $99.99 and you'll find a bunch of different sites that look almost exactly the same, with only some tiny variations in layout, with different phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Some of them have already been shut down by their internet providers or hosting companies, and all that's left is a page saying the store is not available.
Like this one from said Google search: https://thelittlelemondropboutique.com/products/donald-trump-never-surrender-high-top-sneakers-6737
That's generally how the scam works. Multiple sites to increase the chances of showing up in Google searches and reduce the chances of them all being shut down. They're often set up with VOIP phone numbers, which can make it look like they're anywhere the "seller" wants, but they all end up at the same place.
The shoes at the site from the OP and the other near-identical online stores aren't the same as the Trump ones, so it's also possible that someone is selling knockoffs through multiple storefronts, but, as I noted, the site comes up on multiple blacklists, so it's just as likely that the whole thing is fake. It looks legit, because that's obviously the idea.
