Supreme Court to Issue Opinion Monday Morning

The Supreme Court set an unusual, short-notice opinion release for Monday morning, Politico reports.

It appears to signal that a ruling on Donald Trump’s ballot eligibility is coming.

Associated Press: “The resolution of the case on Monday, a day before Super Tuesday contests in 16 states, would remove uncertainty about whether votes for Trump, the leading Republican candidate for president, will ultimately count. Both sides had requested fast work by the court, which heard arguments less than a month ago, on Feb. 8.”

The next scheduled court date is March 15. Those dates were scheduled last fall. So, if they wanted to give a decision before voting on Tuesday, they would have to give it Monday even though they will not be in court.

I think they strike Colorado down.

However the reasons sounded like they were going to be varied. While listening to the oral arguments, it felt like each Justice was tackling the questions from a different angle. We could end up with a plurality opinion.

Although, given the importance of the issue, maybe Robert did corral enough people into a majority opinion with a minimum of messiness. Guess we'll see.

At least as far as national elections are concerned.
