MI: Magistrate running for judge favors personal solutions, treatment over jail

ANN ARBOR, MI – After almost eight years working in Ann Arbor’s court, Tamara Garwood is ready to be a judge.

Garwood, who began working as a magistrate for the 15th District Court in 2016, announced her candidacy for a judge seat in an Ann Arbor City Council meeting in early February.

The mother of two wants to bring an individualist touch to the seat, she said.

“Promoting equity is critical to guarantee that we meet those in the court where we find them,” Garwood told MLive in an email. “Justice cannot be administered in a cookie-cutter fashion, but rather should look to individuals with personal solutions to the circumstances that brought them to court.”
