WI: Two key figures in Trump fake electors effort settle lawsuit
Attorneys say they have reached a settlement with two men alleged to be the architects of an effort to fraudulently cast electoral votes in favor of former President Donald Trump in Wisconsin and other states in 2020.
As part of the agreement, Kenneth Chesebro and Jim Troupis agreed to turn over thousands of pages of documents that shed light on the effort to overturn President Joe Biden's win in Wisconsin in 2020. In addition, both men agreed not to engage in a similar move to cast electoral votes for a candidate that did not win the election.
In a lawsuit filed last year, two Democratic electors sued the group, seeking over $2 million in damages from the 10 false electors and Chesebro and Troupis.
Troupis and Chesebro orchestrated an egregious and unprecedented scheme to undermine the will of the voters, in Wisconsin and beyond, said Jeff Mandell, an attorney with Stafford Rossenbaum and Law Forward, who represented the Democratic electors in the case. This case was the first to seek accountability for those individuals who tried to overturn the will of Wisconsin voters. Through this litigation, we have been able to reveal the details of the scheme and those who were responsible, to ensure this never happens again.
