My grandmother was an incredible woman and I loved her very much, but she perpetuated the idea in many of my uncles, that women were inferior to and should listen to their husbands. I couldn't believe it because she did not live that kind of life at all. She took the family on her shoulders because my grandfather was an alcoholic and could not keep a job, but there she was, telling her sons to be careful about "tricky women" and their need to take control of the family.

It was truly bizarre but it happens more than we think.

She is an intelligent, caring woman and we have had many enjoyable, long conversations on various subjects. Whenever she veers into politics or certain social issues, I change the topic. Was shocked to hear her rail not only against Democrats, but blaming their “disarray” on having Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris as leaders. I really thought she was joking at first. Nope. Dead serious. Don’t get her started on Michelle or Hillary, either.

After hearing that come out of her mouth, I noticed other, more subtle comments about women being inferior. She is not racist or homophobic at all, which seems odd considering how misogynistic she is. It’s weird and it makes me sad.
