Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has surpassed Tesla founder Elon Musk in wealth, however, Mukesh Ambani is another influential wealthy man whose rank is not talked about much
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has become the richest person in the world after increasing his wealth by $23 billion this year, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with a net worth of $200 billion.
On the other hand, Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX and social media platform X, lost $31 billion in 2024 but is now the second richest person in the world with a net worth of $198 billion.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Louis Vuitton CEO Bernard Arnault ranks third with a fortune of $197 billion, followed by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg with a fortune of $179 billion. Microsoft founder Bill Gates is in fifth place with a wealth of $150 billion.....................................

(19,648 posts)Bezos and Musk both own stock in the companies that they either started or lead. Bezos doesn't have $200B in cash, he has a bunch of stock that if he sold it might be worth close to that, of course if he started selling 10s of $billions in stock, the stock would crash before he got started.
Saying they should donate their money is just saying they should sell the shares of their companies and give up control.
I think the way the super rich mare allowed their wealth is where the real injustice lies. Their lives are expensed to their corporations, and they are allowed to leverage onership for financial benefits and loans that are unavailable to the rest of us. At a certain point, the lack of rules for finance just make the uber rich live without any risk. Bezos and Musk have no risk in their lives, not personal nor business risk. Their fortunes earn money on top of money and they rarely even pay for their own lives. it's so foreign to what most people understand about wealth.
