The GOP Candidate in the North Carolina Governor's race is more than LOONEY TOONS! Why doesn't he go back to the time his enslaved ancestors were treated worse than farm animals, were forbidden any learning, religion, family ties, denied rights under the law, etc. How anyone who calls themselves Republican can vote for such a vile pile of offal as this is beyond me. Especially women! In a newly unearthed video, North Carolinas GOP nominee for governor says America was better then because Republicans "fought for real social change."On Tuesday, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson won the GOP primary to become his partys nominee for North Carolina governor, presumably with the help of female voters.
But just four years ago, Robinson said hed absolutely like to return to the days when the 19th Amendment didnt exist ― when women didnt have the right to vote.
I absolutely want to go back to the America where women couldnt vote, Robinson said in a newly resurfaced video of his remarks at a March 2020 event hosted by the Republican Women of Pitt County.

(3,561 posts)The Lt. Gov is elected separately from the governor and many people dont pay attention to that particular race. Four years ago, Robinson was relatively unknown and the batshit crazy stuff he spews didnt get the attention/coverage that he is now. He went from the local papers and TV stations maybe reporting on him then to national media scrutiny for being almost as insane as tRump. Or maybe worse, since tRumps insanity is dementia-related, whereas Robinsons is hardwired.

(19,382 posts)Campaigns (on both sides if necessary) need to ensure the candidates are well known. Im thrilled they didnt know this (Id be physically sick if voters knew this and he still won) because for this election, previous voters are going to be disgusted. Im thinking moderate republicans, woman, and independents. No way will a good many not vote for him again.

(69,370 posts)He says all the things that white racist right wing Trumpsters believe - and it's coming from a Black man. They can point to Robinson and say, see, here's a Black man who agrees with us!
It's probably 50/50 whether he wins the governor's seat in NC.

Republicans will vote for him because they are lost. Their moral compass isn't broken.....they sold it to the devil for a couple more election wins.
We can peel off some. Enough, I think.

I, as a life-long woman for over 80 years, have observed the truth of your statement.
I have reached the sad conclusion that women should have never been given the right to vote.

Davis claimed that children from single-mother households are more likely to drop out of school, go to prison, and have mental health issues.
She argued that in order to keep families together, we have to 'get rid of incentives that incentivize women to leave' their marriages, such as child support and alimony.
'I think we should ban divorce too. Yeah, I think that should be banned,' she said.

(17,802 posts)They are beginning to bring back the concept of nullification.
You thought roe was unsettling established law, just wait.
Nullification will allow states to overturn any federal law they disagree with. It could even apply to amendments in the extreme.
Look to the Texas case on deportations as an early indicator. It's solid federal law, backed by the constitution, that the federal govt establishes border policy. But Texas is challenging that. The stay is only temporary. Scotus can decide to hear the case, and if they do, the walls may Crack a little.
Even without that case, there are others. Little by little federal powers will be eliminated, leaving states free to restrict woman and minorities in all sorts of ways.

Democrat Josh Stein and Republican Mark Robinson have won their parties primaries for governor in North Carolina, NBC News projects, setting up a closely watched November matchup between two statewide elected officials that is all but certain to feature many of the themes that will define the national 2024 campaign. ... The stakes will be high in the race to replace term-limited Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, as North Carolina is just one of two presidential swing states with races for governor.
The outcome was not close: The right-wing lieutenant governor finished with 66% support in a three-way primary, outpacing his next closest Republican rival by more than 47 points. North Carolina has 100 counties, and Robinson won all of them.
Even in an era in which over-the-top crackpots can excel in electoral politics, Robinson stands out as unique. For one thing, hes shown the kind of overt antisemitism that candidates for major offices tend to avoid up to and including his doubts about whether the Holocaust occurred.

......Looking ahead, theres no shortage of relevant angles to this race. Will Robinson actually become North Carolinas next governor? Will his absurd candidacy hurt the GOPs chances in other races in the state?
But in the short term, the question I find myself stuck on is straightforward: Which Republicans other than Donald Trump are going to take a firm stand in support of Robinsons candidacy? Because by any fair measure, his gubernatorial primary victory deserves to be seen as a genuine scandal for the contemporary GOP.
