(28,836 posts)It's a contributing factor in the complications that lead to death. In some studies, the chances of those complications are increased by 80%, so there's clearly a link. If it causes liver failure and one dies from it, it was a factor in that death.
If COVID weakens one's immune system and they get pneumonia and die, did COVID lead to the death?
If cancer causes liver failure which results in death, did cancer lead to the death?
Context matters, and my point stands. Gout is directly linked to issues that kill people prematurely. If those people wouldn't otherwise have developed those complications and died, gout led to their deaths.
