No matter how bad things got, no matter how divided we were, what our national failings might have been, we always had a peaceful, orderly transfer of power every four to eight years. Even during times of war. Even in 2000; Al Gore, obviously shattered and broken, conceded gracefully, and encouraged us to put the country first.

January 6th was when, in Aaron Sorkin's masterful phrase we "joined the League Of Ordinary Nations."

Hell isn't hot enough, nor is eternity long enough, for that bastard.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
