Official GOP Response to SOTU Has Republicans 'Losing It'
The freshman senator is considered a rising star in the party. But her speech’s intense tone—with an over-the-top dramatic cadence that was delivered in a kitchen—left political operatives and observers struggling to make sense of it.
The performance was so bad that some Republicans watched the high-profile speech with a grimace. A GOP strategist told The Daily Beast that Britt’s delivery quickly became a gossip item Thursday night among operatives connected to Donald Trump—something that could have potential implications for her consideration as a vice presidential pick for the former president.
“Everyone’s fucking losing it,” this Republican said, requesting anonymity to discuss private conversations. “It’s one of our biggest disasters ever.”
The setting of the kitchen table—more so the kitchen than the table—for Britt’s speech also left some seasoned Republican strategists confused.
“Senator Katie Britt is a very impressive person. She ran a hell of race in [Alabama],” Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump White House communications adviser and Nikki Haley supporter posted on X. “I do not understand the decision to put her in a KITCHEN for one of the most important speeches she’s ever given.”

Our kitchen is open to the main living area and is super busy. Everyone heads there.
One corner has an Italian Espresso machine and matching grinder on a large tray that also holds the tools, so it functions like a coffee bar. Another corner has the professional stand mixer, but does sport gleaming stainless trim. There are multiple large ceramic canisters with the most accessed kitchen ingredients, crystal bowls filled with fruit and tomatoes, baskets of onions and garlic, and a huge wooden cutting board sits waiting in the center with a professional knife set beside it. I have some open shelves full of cast iron cookware, bottles of vinegar and wines for cooking and drinking. Herbs are hung and drying much of the time. There is usually something on the stove or in the oven, and most days you would find a big stainless bowl with bread dough rising. I keep dirty dishes out of the way, but this kitchen is in constant use and a happy place. No way could I have all that essential stuff stowed away and have to constantly set it all up.
I also have beautiful mother of pearl back-splash reflecting rainbow colors, wood cabinetry, and black quartz counters with metallic specks so it looks like black lava. We live in Hawaii.
