Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhy is it political pointing out the hypocrisy of the republicans in Congress by refusing to pass
an immigration bill, refusing to pass an assault rifle ban, against a woman's right to choose, against supporting NATO, Ukraine, pushing for a two state solution in the middle east, trying to get much needed aid to Palestinian civillians in Gaza, pushing for clean air and environmental protection, lowering drug prices, wanting to help first time home owners with affordable housing, etc. etc. etc.?
Isn't this the State of the Union?
by "criticizing the speech as political", as some are doing, is an attempt to dismiss what was said.
"oh, it was just political"

(28,836 posts)Everything after that is just noise.
Those things are political because the right has made them political. Just like COVID, which should have never been a political issue in the first place.
Almost everything has a political context. Whining about the speech being political is because they don't have anything about the speech itself to actually criticize.

(41,051 posts)Pointing out that they are taking marching orders from Trump is partisan & unseemly but wearing a MAGA hat in the chamber & jeering the President is freedom of expression.
Over the years the hypocrisy wears you down.

(20,385 posts)Just once I'd love to hear a journalist (if they're even called that anymore) stop a Republican mid sentence and call them out for the blatant hypocrisy they engage in on non-stop. You're absolutely correct; it's exhausting.

(1,416 posts)and it's supposed to be political. It's the freaking State of the Union, a political speech given by the political leader of the nation. What, it's supposed to be satire? F***-ing idiots.

(98,883 posts)you can ignore it because it is "only political"

(1,416 posts)It's infuriatingly disingenuous. It's par for the course, deflect, distract, minimize, deny, flat out lie. It's part and parcel of their underlying denial of reality which grants them an aura of punchability.

(13,364 posts)themselves do as per usual. Normally dems I think are too nice to republicans during that speech and republicans are always partisan. Normally dem presidents kiss ass to the justices too.
I think Joe was told he needed to show major strength and he did.

(8,940 posts)Trump voters think it's ok to vote a craven adjudicated rapist/tax fraud, overt racist (Muslim ban/the wall/shit-hole countries), antisemite (Charlottesville good people/dinner with Nazis)/Hitler loving/Putin loving/, anti-Constitution/traitor/insurrectionist/thief (stolen classified documents), amoral, sadistic, revenge-fueled, murderer (one million covid deaths), pathological liar, sexual predator, dictator wannabe, twice impeached/4 times indicted/91felony counts, anti-women/pro-abortion ban, extortionist (Ukraine), malignant sociopath back into the White House simply because Trump hates who they hate...
Biden knows we are a country in the throes of a silent civil war, perpetuated by and for Donald Trump...
Damn right the State of Union was political!!!

(2,964 posts)..or does or doesn't say or doesn't do; Trump and the MAGA crowd will criticize it. They been criticizing him for being mentally weak and physically feeble but when he addresses them aggressively with truth and strength, they say he's angry, divisive and a liar.
This guy really pissed me off...
