Co-hosts of "The View" were put off by Alabama Sen. Katie Britt's Republican response to President Joe Biden's State of the Union Address.
While the women cracked jokes about the knives behind Britt giving off "Chucky" vibes, what former Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin is hearing is that GOP women are furious.
"This was a disaster from start to finish," Griffin said of Britt's speech. "And actually, Katie Britt is a serious person with policy chops and Democratic senators will tell you they respect her.
"But it's Women's History Month. It's International Women's Day and we put the senator in the kitchen! Like women can be wives and moms. But put her in front of a podium! I mean, it was I was hearing from Republican women everywhere like, what why did they choose this? Why didn't she say, 'Put me anywhere else?'"

(22,732 posts)That was a cross she was wearing, though, not a crucifix. It's not a crucifix unless there's a little figure "nailed" to it.
I know it's a small detail, but they really are two different things.

(9,289 posts)Thank you for the correction! I think most of the Catholics I have known who wear religious jewelry have worn St Christopher necklaces instead of crucifixes.

(81,890 posts)The US Senate insists that they are the greatest deliberate body in the entire world.
So a US Senator sits in a kitchen, to give a rebuttal to the SOTU speech, the most important political speech of the year.
No wonder women are pissed off.

(23,674 posts)getting extremely high off its own supply.
First they lowered the bar below ground level for Joe Biden, insisting to America that he could barely stand up or string two words together, which left them wide open to a rope-a-dope of epic proportions as Biden blew their caricatures out of the water during the extremely high-profile State of the Union address.
Then they had one of their women Senators give the Republican rebuttal while standing in a damn kitchen, which was so condescending it almost felt like trolling.
They even let Biden steal their thunder on the border issue, booing their own bill and than going quiet after he taunted them for it.
This is not a party which seems particularly in touch with the electorate or the political situation they're in.

They're in the GOP, they know their arty would strip away all their rights if they had the power to do so. Why would this bother them, they belong to a party that believes in the subjgation and stripping of rights forf women.

(100,133 posts)Perhaps it was a set? And of course, Claire is a retired US Senator speaking for herself, not a sitting Senator giving the most important speech of the year for her Party.
Britts opening lines about her most important job is being a wife and mom is what had me turning off the sound and mocking her all the way through the rest of her performance. She even had the requisite cross on her necklace.
Lady, you are being paid to be a US Senator. Reference your loved ones in some other way, without denigrating your paid career.
Im glad at least some of the GOP has the brains to find the whole thing cringeworthy.

Sen. Katie Britt gave the GOPs response to the State of the Union from her kitchen table, just like everyday real families.
Here is the view of the kitchen in her familys home, a 6,300 square foot house in Montgomery, Alabama (photos as staged by a realtor circa 2018).

(2,332 posts)The show never intended her to be any kind of shrinking violet. More careful viewing makes it clear that she had serious feminist leanings, despite the 50s misogyny:
And remember that she was always the one who saw right through Eddie Haskell, better than anyone. June was always the smartest Cleaver.
Donna Reed was another one who was always much stronger and smarter than one would have expected.
It's sort of weird now to see all of the subtle ways those TV mom actresses were chipping at the edges of the 'stereotypical' housewife image.

(90,382 posts)she absolutely said that. I asked her something about what she thought was a key line for her in the script: "Ward, don't you think you were a little hard on the Beaver?" I got it on tape, and probably still have it in storage somewhere.
I laughed and she smiled widely, acted as though she'd expected that reaction. She'd evidently been asked this before, and this was her answer. OUTSTANDING!!! I already liked her a lot as an actress, but I loved her, as a person, even more after that. It made for an EPIC soundbite!

Did any GOP female legislator turn down the role? Were any consulted, about the speech, delivery, or optics or were they just insulted on purpose by their mansplaining colleagues?

Those CEOs are sick of losing leadership in businesses, to women, they are invading their power. These policies will take that competition away. Man
