Democrat demands apology from Van Orden after SOTU outburst

Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) is demanding an apology from his fellow Wisconsin Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R) following Van Orden’s outburst at Thursday’s State of the Union address.

The outburst came as Biden spoke critically of former President Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic while addressing the joint session of Congress, arguing that Trump “failed the most basic presidential duty that he owes to the American people: the duty to care.” “Lies!” Van Orden yelled in response.

Pocan released a statement Friday morning, saying Van Orden “continues to embarrass” Wisconsin and Congress. He called on the first-term lawmaker to “formally apologize” to Biden for his outburst.

“It’s one thing to be a Trump fanatic; it’s another when you’re a member of Congress. This constant pattern of unnecessary outbursts, whether it’s teen pages in the Capitol Rotunda or administration officials at a classified briefing, has many of us worried about his temperament and perhaps his soberness,” Pocan said in the statement. Van Orden cursed out a group of teenage Senate pages in the rotunda last summer.

Representative Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin didn’t get to Congress by being a timid guy. After using campaign funds to travel to the Stop the Steal rally, the Republican was seen in a restricted area on the Capitol grounds on January 6. After carrying a loaded handgun in his carry-on in an Iowa airport, he ran his successful campaign for the House under probation.

In that light, the controversies surrounding him this week shouldn’t come as a total surprise. In the wee hours of Thursday morning, a group of teenage Senate pages were resting on the ground in the Capitol rotunda — which is a regular occurrence when a session goes late. When Van Orden walked by, he went full get-off-my-lawn mode. “Wake the fuck up you little shits,” he said, according to one of the pages who spoke to The Hill. “What the fuck are you all doing? Get the fuck out of here. You are defiling the space you pieces of shit.” Van Orden asked, “Who the fuck are you?” When a teenager said they were pages, he said, “I don’t give a fuck who you are. Get out.” According to Punchbowl News, which broke the story, Van Orden was drinking in his office prior to berating the teens. (A spokesperson for Van Orden says he was hosting one of his regular “beer and cheese” tours for constituents.)

In '22 our 20 year Democratic congressman, Ron Kind, decided to retire because in our gerrymandered district he would have a tough time winning reelection. Van Ordin's opponent was our state senator, Brad Pfaff, who simply ran a poor campaign, lost by 12000 votes and thankfully won't be running again. Katrina Shankland, a 12 year member of the state assembly, will likely be the opponent this year and currently she is in a statistical tie with Van Ordin who was at the capital on Jan. 6.

At least I'm alive. Four years ago yesterday, I came down with covid. One week before that thing in the White House finally did something. Four years later, I'm dealing with long covid.

I constantly wonder if I will ever get my old life back. And I really doubt it. The damage is probably permanent. I would love to gather up all of the people in this country who are dealing with the same thing, and deliver one whopping class action lawsuit to that asshole. And the families of those who died could bring about another lawsuit. If only.

18. My 91yo relatively healthy uncle died of 'viral pneumonia'...

...in March, 2020 in Arlington, Texas. They were still claiming no covid cases in the state at that time. My cousin said his doctor later said it was covid. I'll never forget or forgive any of the bastards.

His was another death that could have been avoided. Covid was most likely in every state by March. It just took a while to really blow up in different areas of the country.

I will never forget watching videos from Italy. Page upon page of obituaries, all victims of covid. If that wasn't a warning to everyone in charge here, I don't know what was.

We knew it was coming, and he had time to prepare. Instead he played golf, threw out the pandemic playbook that Obama and Biden had created, and lied through his teeth.

I can't say what I would like to have happen to all of them, in the way of punishment, especially him.
