(1,224 posts)I had to force myself to watch the full Katie Britt response.
I'm always surprised at Republican talking points....but like this video points out, we need to rebut them one by one with facts.

We can both rebut her obvious lies while laughing at the absurdity and ridiculousness of it all. The two are not mutually exclusive.

(8,186 posts)But Im in agreement that we have to see them as a threat, not a joke. They are amassing power and want more of it. We are in this mess because too many saw trump as a joke. We can no longer make that mistake. Those of us on DU are steeped in politics. But many people just are not paying attention. Even in my own family. Im sometimes gob smacked at things I sometimes hear.
Of course, its my responsibility to help steer them to a better understanding.
A lot of low information voters out there. I dont mean that in a condescending way. Folks working hard, trying to keep their heads above water, are often not as dialed in.

And we can specifically comment on their foolish lies and cheating.

Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)Sure, we should laugh at how ridiculous they look because they do look ridiculous.
But we should also, always, swing back hard and fast and put a definitive END to whatever they were doing that looked so ridiculous.

(1,415 posts)Reason and self-interest don't work because they deny reality. Education might work in the long-term but they're dismantling their own educational systems. Re-education camps would be frowned upon and napalm is probably out of the question.
Voting may accomplish something assuming the electoral college, SC or insurrectionists don't intervene.
Until the leading insurrectionists are held accountable there isn't a whole hell of a lot to do other than remaining informed and ridiculing the hypocrisy, the lack of self-awareness, and the vast humanitarian void that resides in the center of their being.

(7,794 posts)It doesn't overtly insult or ridicule them. That's important to busy people who may make the time to vote if they feel like their vote is important.

(1,831 posts)Turns out this good Christian woman wearing a gold cross bald faced lied, I say, son, she lied, on TV. That 12 year old girl was trafficked and repeatedly raped - 15/20 years ago in Mexico. Please hold your horses, I am not in any way disparaging this poor child. This is horrific.
The very idea that any woman would lie about this in a national address for one person makes me physically ill. I hope she gets turned over to an ethics committee. Learn the lesson, lady, everything Trump touches dies.
Yes, elections have consequences. A sitting US Senator lying in a State of the Union rebuttal is so reprehensible it leaves me gobsmacked. There must be consequences for this behavior.
Have you NO shame, Madam?

(22,341 posts)I started to watch on Wednesday night, but between the overly dramatic delivery, the Stepford wife vibe, the phoney "we moms have to stick together" schtick*, and the lies themselves, it quickly became unbearable. Fortunately, I started recording the SOTU coverage on MSNBC about 20 minutes before I started watching, so I was able to fast forward through most of her blather.
Fortunately, the entire text is available on line, so I don't have to endure the awfulness of her performance to find out exactly what lies she told, and I intend to do so in the near future.
*I am a mom, but I can't relate to women like her AT ALL. Maybe it's because that was never my entire identity. Being a mother to my daughter was and is just one aspect of my life; a very important aspect, but far from the whole thing, and I never felt like it made me some kind of extra special being, the way "trad wives" like Britt seem to think. (Blech!)

(21,834 posts)You've just got to do both. Take a lesson from the Weimar Republic. Those Nazi guys were a bunch of thuggish loons, but sometimes such idiocy plays, so keep a close eye on them and don't underestimate.
