Leaked audio from the No Labels delegate meeting shows a group of people who cannot find a nominee and may never find one. Greg Sargent wrote about the leaked call in The New Republic:
At the end of the call, No Labels national convention chair Mike Rawlings said its essential for the group to see a pathway to the White House. He acknowledged: We dont have a candidate. And its possible in the end we wont find a suitable candidate. All of the prominent candidates approached by No Labels have refused, Bennett of Third Way told me. Thats because its clear that their ticket is a road to nowhere. No serious person wants to end up in the single digits nationally while helping Trump win.
Joe Manchin, Nikki Haley, Larry Hogan, and Kyrsten Sinema have turned down No Labels. No one with a national name wants to run on this ticket when it is clear that the only thing they would accomplish is getting Trump back in the White House. No potential candidate wants to go down in history as the person who led to the end of American democracy.
No Labels has not been transparent with its process. It had to be leaked because the organization will not allow the media to observe its decision-making, which is another way of shielding them from public accountability and the Democratic process.

(19,569 posts)Which is why they're trying to muck it up like they are since Trump can't win without a spoiler.
Apparently they're having a bit of a tough time finding the next person willing to go down in history like Nader.
I don't know if it's because ending democracy is a worse legacy than ending our last hope against fighting climate change, but in the end I guess it doesn't matter. We should just be grateful there's not an ego on the left big enough for their quest.

(464 posts)well thought out. Never saw any plans on how they would improve the average person's choices or security, such as FDR Four Freedoms.

(19,569 posts)Let me see if I've got this right... they can't find a candidate with national recognition, willing to sell their soul to them in exchange for a brief rockstar tour, willing to burn down our democracy?
Maybe, just maybe, we're not as fragile a democracy as those disgusting , rich Republican donors thought we were?
May they all contract an incurable, lethal and painful disease their money (and tax breaks) cannot save them from.

(782 posts)A lot of people don't like Biden but hate Trump. Many of them will vote against Trump by holding their nose and voting for Biden.
Biden is a smart politician who knows the value of the "Big Tent" and will welcome the Independents and Republicans who loathe Trump and are just voting against him or not voting for either.
Trump doesn't have the brains to be an dogmatic ideologue of any stripe. Biden is too smart of a politician to be dogmatic and demand loyalty.
