Former President Donald Trump, perhaps threatened by President Joe Bidens well-received State of the Union address, mocked his opponents lifelong stutter at a rally in Georgia yesterday. Wasnt itdidnt it bring us together? Trump asked sarcastically. He kept the bit going, slipping into a Biden caricature. Im gonna bring the country tuh-tuh-tuh-together, Trump said, straining and narrowing his mouth for comedic effect.
Trump has made a new habit of this. Hes a threat to d-d-democracy, Trump said in his vaudeville Biden character at a January rally in Iowa. That jibe was also a response to a big Biden speechone tied to the anniversary of the January 6 insurrection. (Guess who the he was in that sentence.)
More than Trumps ugly taunt, one thing stands out to me about these moments: the sound of Trumps supporters laughing right along with him. This is a building block of Trumpism. The man at the top gives his followers permission to be the worst version of themselves.
I was on my way to meet friends last night when someone texted me a link to Trumps latest fake-stuttering clip. I am a lifelong stutterer, and as I rode the subway, holding my phone up to my ear, out came that old familiar mockerylike Adam Sandler in Billy Madison saying, Tuh-tuh-tuh-today, junior! Only this time the taunt was coming from a 77-year-old man.

Anyway, I'm glad this thread was posted because I saw it on television a short time ago and knew I'd want to sound off on it. Here's my take. I would like to say that we're all born with inherent challenges. Overcoming them is what life is all about.

Hitler and his henchmen victimized an entire continent and exterminated millions in his quest for a so-called Master Race.
But the concept of a white, blond-haired, blue-eyed master Nordic race didn't originate with Hitler. The idea was created in the United States, and cultivated in California, decades before Hitler came to power. California eugenicists played an important, although little-known, role in the American eugenics movement's campaign for ethnic cleansing.
Eugenics was the pseudoscience aimed at "improving" the human race. In its extreme, racist form, this meant wiping away all human beings deemed "unfit," preserving only those who conformed to a Nordic stereotype. Elements of the philosophy were enshrined as national policy by forced sterilization and segregation laws, as well as marriage restrictions, enacted in 27 states. In 1909, California became the third state to adopt such laws. Ultimately, eugenics practitioners coercively sterilized some 60,000 Americans, barred the marriage of thousands, forcibly segregated thousands in "colonies," and persecuted untold numbers in ways we are just learning. Before World War II, nearly half of coercive sterilizations were done in California, and even after the war, the state accounted for a third of all such surgeries.
California was considered an epicenter of the American eugenics movement. During the 20th century's first decades, California's eugenicists included potent but little-known race scientists, such as Army venereal disease specialist Dr. Paul Popenoe, citrus magnate Paul Gosney, Sacramento banker Charles Goethe, as well as members of the California state Board of Charities and Corrections and the University of California Board of Regents.
Eugenics would have been so much bizarre parlor talk had it not been for extensive financing by corporate philanthropies, specifically the Carnegie Institution, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Harriman railroad fortune. They were all in league with some of America's most respected scientists from such prestigious universities as Stanford, Yale, Harvard and Princeton. These academicians espoused race theory and race science, and then faked and twisted data to serve eugenics' racist aims.

(24,326 posts)Diversity is the key for California's strength. People live and work and laugh together. Imagine music with one note, it'd be awful. The tonalities, chords, rests, spaces and all the other elements of music make sound into art.
Likewise for creativity. Gen. Patton said, "If everyone is thinking alike, no one is doing any thinking." He did not appreciate Yes Men. He wanted his staff to speak up before the battle -- when changes can be made that do not cost lives and materiel -- to discuss what doesn't make sense or has been overlooked.
Contrast with Traitor Nixon's direct descendant the Traitor Trump, who demanded each member of his cabinet publicly praise him before the beginning of a meeting.

(25,169 posts)It just happens to be a cornerstone of the 🪷 Lotus Sutra. 🪷
But TBH, it is a truth that many spiritual writers discuss. We really do project our self-image onto others. We too often see the negative side of this, but when one experiences the positive side, it's "enlightening".
In "If Life Is A Game, These Are The Rules" Dr. Chérie Carter-Scott states (Rule 7)
You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself.
morningupgrade.com summarizes:
Rule 7: Others are only mirrors of you.
How you react to others says much more about you than about the others. According to Carter-Scott, you cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself. We love people who have traits that we like and dislike people who have traits we dislike.
Lessons an individual can learn from rule seven include clarity, tolerance, support, and healing. As we continue learning such lessons, we take specific steps toward shifting our perspective from others to ourselves. We should learn to embrace all parts of others, know that our judgment about others says much about us, take time to nurture ourselves toward wholeness, and be supportive of others and ourselves.
---
The Lotus Sutra goes beyond, in saying that we have the ability to experience all states of being.
The more advanced among us benefit from walking in the other person's moccasins, so to speak, in order to better appreciate them and be of assistance.

(7,398 posts)All my life we've worked so hard to shove the bullies under a rock so society could function with something closer to the ideals we claim. I thought we'd made some real headway only to find they were just lurking anyway.
My disappointment is really my own fault. I knew full well there were serious problems but I honestly thought it was just a matter of keep dealing with issues one at a time. I don't hang around with the MAGA sort and never did, so the depth of that barrel wasn't something I ever saw. I expected that it still is part of the fabric of the US but not to this level. 70+ Million willing to fall in with this? I should not be appalled, but I am.

Biden is an old dude, yes, but his years and stuttering problem have given him ample opportunity to learn how to crush bullies, so let the games begin. I am confident of his ability to send TFG into incoherent spluttering, something that happens when a victim has disconnected all the buttons adult bullies like to push.
So don't confuse Biden with a slightly befuddled old grandpa. He's made out of pure steel.

been sued for not paying his bills and contractors, or been impeached 2 times.
Btw yes Joe has a stutter but that didnt stop him from being a professor of law and Constitutional law
as he was a sitting U.S. Senator or becoming POTUS. Nor did it stop him from giving one of the best
State of the Union addresses ever. Both Presidents Obama and Biden along with HRC are everything that Trump is not and it eats away at him daily if not hourly.
I used to hope that Trump would end up in prison for his crimes but now I just want him to expire
from his obesity, diet, circulatory system illnesses, and his tertiary syphilis. Putin installed him in
order to weaken and divide America and in that he has been highly successful.
Besides Joe is not out on bail or having to find companies to post his bond because he really isnt
