Trumps White House Was Awash in Speed and Xanax
https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/trump-white-house-drugs-speed-xanax-1234979503/
Has the media just gotten "scandal fatigue" when it comes to Trump (though not for Biden). Or are they just turning a blind eye to what would be a major story for any other politician?

(28,836 posts)We don't even know who the prescriptions were for.
"are they just turning a blind eye "
It was covered by all major media at the time the report was released, including links to the actual report.

(37,368 posts)maybe some investigative journalism is in order. If anybody in the MSM still does that?

(24,973 posts)ass by printing a story once and not investigating further. If a repug operative wants to plant a story based on lies about Biden, though, they are all in for days of on the air coverage.

(4,039 posts)to do it for them. Since they don't believe in an unbiased press anyway, or governing, and their made up stories are all they've got.
Democrats are busy actually doing the work of governing instead of peddling the most sensational story they can find. Problem is the sensational stories we have are real and need to be aired.

(9,103 posts)That in itself is a scandal.
My partner and I have had some pretty serious health issues in our lives, requiring us to use some heavy weight medications. You wouldn't believe all the hassles, all the documentation, all the medical bureacracy we had to deal with to obtain prescriptions for conditions that were obvious and attested to by some of the best specialists in their fields.
But these folks were just able to waltz into an office and cop some drugs and nobody even bothered to write down who was getting what?
At the very least the "prescribers" ought to be hauled up before a grand jury and asked some serious questions.
Unbelievable, the BS the Trumpsters are able to get away with.
I agree with the poster who asks, essentially, where the fuck are our investigative journalists? Or is "investigative journalism" now an oxymoron?
senseandsensibility
(24,973 posts)And I defy anyone on this board or anywhere to say that this would be similarly treated if it involved Biden's Whitehouse. This is one more example of an utter double standard in the corporate media and in the elite press like the NYT. Thank you for calling attention to it. They try to wear us down with their "narrative" and we need to continue calling truth to power although it is exhausting.

(7,400 posts)My humble opinion is the media has decided the circus is big ratings so don't demolish it. Better to burn down democracy and keep access with the big tent. I know that's tin foil hat territory ...

(4,039 posts)There's the appearance of balance because they let MSNBC, NYTimes, and WaPo keep going while they make money for their owners, but everyone is on a tight leash and we could lose any of them tomorrow like we seem to have lost CNN.
We need a truly liberal owned network, liberal owned newspapers. But there's always a RW guy who's richer to buy them up.
This is what disproportionat income and the road to oliguarchy create. I'm no socialist, but it's looking pretty good to me right now.

There would be no time to talk of President Biden's age.
Donnie Dipshit scandals are like drinking water from a firehose. It would take up all their air time and ink, and it wouldn't be "fair".
That's how they think of it.
They may also think; " what's the point, his voters don't care".
It's never occurred to them that maybe his voters don't care, because they don't cover them.
They've stopped being journalists, and now see their job as "moving the numbers". Dem gaffes and scandals tend to move the numbers. Retrumplican scandals don't.
Why waste your time on a story about Donnie Dipshit raping a woman, when it has no impact on his voters, when a story about Presidents Biden using the term "illegals" gets Dems to say they won't vote for him?

Not when Biden's age needs yet more coverage.
