Biden Scores Gigantic Lead Among Young Voters, Per Latest Campaign Data

The latest polling by the frequent collaborators YouGov and The Economist shows an absolutely huge lead for President Joe Biden among registered voters from the ages of 18 through 29.

The pollsters were specifically asking for registered voters’ intentions in the expected rematch later this year between Biden and former President Donald Trump, who’s sailing to a Republican nomination for the contest after his last remaining serious challenger, Nikki Haley, dropped out.

Those from the aforementioned age range backing Biden reached 54 percent, the largest share of any age group expressing support for the current president. It’s only slightly below the portion from that age range won by Biden in the 2020 presidential election, per exit polling by Edison Research. (That data showed a 60 percent share backing the Democrat.) Trump in the new polling from YouGov was at only 31 percent among those younger voters.

The polling was completed just before President Biden’s recent “State of the Union” address given in front of Congress, which spurred a wave of positive news coverage for the president. Leading up to, during, and after the speech, the president and his team have sought to highlight an extensive range of accomplishments including the infrastructure spending package enacted much earlier in Biden’s tenure that continues fueling projects around the country.

I don’t want to be that guy, but I’ve recently become more sensitized to stigma around colostomy bags.

My father had to have one after a surgery, and he was so self-conscious about it. Then a friend needed one, and had the same reaction.

So many people have colostomy bags, yet there’s also a lot of shame that society imposes on people with them.

Anyway, colostomy bags are useful durable medical equipment. Trump, otoh, is about as useless as anything can be.

I know no one is trying to offend. I just wanted to share that.

Although it was presented like a decrease, they are comparing a general poll done 9 months before the election to an exit poll. Not equivalent. Some of the undecideds will break for Biden, and some will stay home instead. These numbers don't take any of that into account.

so even if Biden's level of support was exactly the same among that group as voted in 2020, it is natural that a preference poll taken now would read that support as a few percentage points lower-- because the poll results include "undecideds".

So it appears to me that President Biden is in great shape with that age group,
as long as we can get them to turn out and vote...

They polled registered 18-29 y/o's before SOTU but ALL of that age group in the exit poll so naturally the number would be higher.

There's a lot of time before the election and a lot of 18 year olds' birthdays, too. I see that 54% growing substantially by the next exit poll, possibly eclipsing the 60% from the 2020 exit poll.

She was a raging republican and on disability. Every election she would fill out her ballot and smile as she completed it, reminding me that she was canceling my vote out. I would remind her that she was voting against her own best interest. She never changed. I always facilitated her voting because it was the right thing to do. I love that you look after the young people and keep them headed in the right direction!

Mom was a total democrat; dad, an old-style republican. He was also 20 years older than mom. They'd come out from voting talking about how they cancelled out each other's votes. But they never missed an election. The right was too important, no matter who voted for who. That message was instilled in me at an early age; my younger brother and sister are more hit and miss... my brother more than my sis... but sis and I talk a lot more together, and she knows there's a hell of a lot more to lose for us than my brother comprehends.

A man in the US that does not stand up and speak out for reproductive rights at this time is on a tough grounding. I’m going to have a hard time forgiving some of the males in my life when this is all over. I never imagined it being ‘all over’ in my lifetime but my heart tells me differently.

It's a six point drop from a race that he won by 4.5%

Worse yet... they made up only 10% of the sample... when they were 17% of the electorate last time around (which is backed up by the fact that - while they prefer him to TFG - the president's approval rating for this group was substantially underwater).

My nephew is well versed in it, as much as one can be and not be totally involved in the long history. But he's not a one issue voter on anything but democracy. Love him as much as if he were my own; was there when he was born, and took him everywhere with me when he was young. He's at the top of the age range polled, but he's got a poly-sci degree and the conversations hubs and I have with him are wonderful. Of course, we usually clear the room of everyone else, but the three of us have a blast! (LOL)

He's Biden all the way. Not just because of *rump and his threat to democracy, but also because of his policies. The kid has an excellent head on his shoulders!
