He has a cult that is ready to do anything he says. They are armed. They can't be reasoned with. They are in some ways an army.
When he loses in November, I fear events not unlike J6. I fear random lone wolf acts of defiance. This could be against blue state government institutions. It could as easily - easier? - be against things like a car with a bumper sticker someone takes to be liberal or Democratic.
People like his supporters have been known and active in other countries. Are bombers or even suicide bombers in other cultures very much different from his more extreme cultists?
I'm certain this has been thought of by those charged with keeping the country safe.
Or am I off base?

(44,728 posts)This is why he should never be on the ballot. We know he wont accept the results if he loses.

(8,581 posts)He is such an odd mix of factors that is--hopefully!--not easily duplicated, even by another charlatan. I don't see how he could hand-off the whole following to anyone; although it may appear that way at first, but I doubt it would have longevity, at least in it's current form.
Which of course raises the question: what *does* happen to his followers when he's gone?

(130,461 posts)at least they would want to build a shrine and pickle his corpse for display like the Russians did with Lenin. Crazy shit will happen even after he's dead.

(31,893 posts)someone will attempt to claim the Trump mantle.
Don Jr, DeSantis, Nikki, MTG, possibly even Kari Lake...
Immediately there will be conspiracy theories that the deep state did him in... and I would expect Meal Team 6 will be looking for targets to shoot. Could get bad.
Some will expect JFK, Jr to arise and lead them. or Elvis.
Hopefully it all starts to go away in a year or so.
OTOH, some cults carry on long past the delusional founders demise... mostly religious cults. This one is political with religious undertones, so I don't know.

(16,385 posts)But as far as widespread action, no, Im not afraid of that happening. But terrorist attacks are bad enough.

(24,951 posts)He won't have access to the "powers" of the Presidency this time around. He and his followers can still do some damage but it's not like he can walk in and illegally occupy the WH. I think that, if anything, his followers will probably become demoralized and Trump will become less relevant and I can't see him being nominated AGAIN in 2028 unless nothing is left of the Republican Party other than the Trump cultists. With all of the GOPers leaving Congress, it seems less likely too that he will have the influence there that he has wielded so far. It took awhile for people to tire of Sarah Palin too but it eventually happened.

(10,891 posts)Hopefully to incarceration.
There will be more of the election fraud talk, sure, and some limited skirmishes will initially appear from his morons, then die off. But my opinion is you can stick a fork in him after he loses this time. As far as trying another J6 event his morons will probably look at what happened to the first group of morons and opt out this go around, so we probably wont see anything nearly like that again.

(11,767 posts)Trump and his ilk serve a purpose for the Conservative movement. On one hand, they push Conservative bullshit into the media and into the back of the mind of people who don't pay attention. On the other hand, Trump serves as a bit of a foil to Conservatives. Him being such a complete ass, allows Conservatives, who have pretty much the same policy goals, to seem reasonable in comparison.
As long as the Conservative power brokers see any benefit to continue pushing people like Trump into positions of power, we will not be rid of him or people like him. The real fear is if they ever get someone with similar character attributes of Trump but with actual intelligence and not just a "conman's" mentality. Trump is way in over his head in terms of actually being a "strongman" but someone with more intelligence, like say Richard Nixon's skill set with all the right wing media bubble and mainstream media's complacence, that would be serious trouble.
One thing that we need to learn from this whole bullshit is that we CANNOT rely on our institutions to save us. Institutions are made up of PEOPLE. They are not some untouchable entity that always follows the laws or comes through for us. We need to wake up and understand that we get the government that we choose, OR that we allow to take power. There is A LOT of money behind Conservatism, but actually few people. While Money is formidable and can get people to do a lot of things, people power will usually prevail if it is actually brought to bear. That means that we need to get a lot more people involved in politics and understanding what Conservatives and further right wing people want for the United States.

(3,782 posts)His aura of invincibility will be shattered. The J6 rebels will still be in jail. TFG himself will be facing hundreds of millions in court judgements. The stink of failure and losing will be overpowering on him. Nobody will actually risk martyrdom for him because no would-be martyrs will exist to be held up as examples of how they will be treated well and idolized if their mission goes right. His support will bleed off from the edges until even the hardcore center wonders if they are really in the winner's corner. TFG will rail and mug and cry and pout and look increasingly juvenile and foolish as everything he does clearly becomes less and less effective. Like Father Coughlin before him his movement will dissolve back into the elements from which it was forged, a squabbling mess of discontents who can't agree on who needs to be screwed most today.

My solution to just about everything wrong in the World is a managed and kind reduction of human population. Nature and the evil among us will reduce human population brutally otherwise.

highly doubt there will be violence following his election loss.
As far as being around, whats he gonna do? Call for primaries against certain gqp ppl? Hes going to be more broke than he already is, continuously scrambling to obtain enough money to pay legal bills and court judgements. Hell be around, but more an annoyance than anything.

(3,363 posts)Yes, I know he is mortal and has to pass on sometime. I know that intellectually, but I actually wonder if he is actually a demon from the underworld and is just too mean to die. I don't think he has a soul. Even a millimeter of all the horrible things he's done would have finished off anyone else in the public eye. I am despairing that we will ever be rid of him - and his enablers. 💔

(12,529 posts)Even without Trump, it will take several cycles to burn out the MAGA cult. It is a self-perpetuating movement borne of grievance, victimhood and resentment.
The battle will continue beyond Donald Trump until the GOP, sick of losing, reconstitutes itself into something sane and pro-American.

(18,823 posts)the signs are obvious to anyone who has ever seen it unravel a mind. Those little episodes will become more and more frequent and last longer and longer. Hell start cancelling events and his staff will blame whatever venue it was booked at.
no_hypocrisy
(54,880 posts)My theory is that Trump still holds sway over Republicans in the House and the Senate b/c of his possible return to the WH. They either want a piece of the action (power and authority) or they're outright afraid of him. If the latter, the fear is that he'll find a MAGA candidate to primary them and get a bunch of voters to remove them -- or he has "the goods" on them (dossiers).
My hope is that if/when Trump loses in the GE this year, it may eventually be over. If there is no chance of Trump holding power again, he loses a lot of leverage. What's he going to do to them? Ban them from golfing with him? Cancel their membership at Bedminster, Mar-A-Lago?
The Mob Boss could be just a specter in 12 months.

They've done nothing else for generations now.
There is no one with enough juice to direct the cult otherwise and very few with any such real desire anyway.
From a policy aim stand point you can't squeeze the finest frog's hair between Chump and Cheney and if you do Shittler somehow may be better.
Loyalty to the Constitution, some might say.
I say they are full of it, understanding that Shittler does not share power, cannot be trusted, is lazy as fuck, has no filter, vengeful, petty, stupid, and is mercurial as can be doesn't mean supporting democracy it just means a few of the authoritarian crooks aren't weapons grade stupid and little else.
