Through hyper-partisanship and continuous corruption, they lost their ability, or desire, to interpret the law according to our Constitution.
They chose Party over Country and Constitution.
They did not just put their finger on the scales of justice, they put their entire right arm.
As we edge closer to the edge of autocracy, we are on the verge of losing our democracy.
George Washington warned us of "political Parties". Did he envision a future much like what we are now experiencing?
Republicans stand ready to throw our democracy overboard in their glorification of power. They know that a vote for Trump is a vote for Putin.
Will history blame the Democrats for not stopping the assault?

(33,381 posts)Look no further than this board making excuses for an AG who sat on his hands for two years while a madman kept america's most closely held secrets. Merrick Garland is the reason we are here today. Feckless coward.

(50,319 posts)He is complicit.
He refused to deal with a known traitor and thief of classified documents.
Garland knew this placed military and intelligence agencies at risk. Garland did not care one iota. He did not get warrants for the other properties.
Garland is the reason trump is running for office. A known rapist and criminal.

(22,022 posts)Once DOJ became aware from the National Archives that there were missing top secret documents, DOJ should have worked hand in hand with the Archives to get them back. Instead DOJ allowed the National Archives to go it alone until finally the Archives had to ask for help.
Same situation when the Michigan AG sent a criminal referral to DOJ asking for help in the fake elector scheme, DOJ did nothing for 1 year which prompted Dana Nessel to open the prosecution herself.

Various public sources downplayed these rumors. Then, not long after he'd been elected and placed in office, we found out these rumors had been true. This is an old problem in our country.

I'm guessing here mind you, but I'm guessing most Veterans would not be rooting for Putin.
Isn't now PRIME TIME to spend more time and energy in Red States to turn them BLUE?
Good possibility this election we can shove republiCONs back into their FQX hole where they'll have
trouble getting out of until they learn voters are tired of being lied to.

(5,254 posts)WE ARE NOT THERE YET.
We are going to vote, we are going to make sure everyone we know that supports Democracy votes for ZERO REPUBLICANS, THEY ARE THE PARTY OF PUTIN.
We are going to win, and we are going to take back the House, the Senate, and the Presidency, and we are going to start packing or impeaching in the courts including the not so Supreme Court, for unethical
unConstitutional, party over country behavior.
We are going to start investigating, removing and prosecuting all the Seditious people working in our Government to wreck it.
We are going to build back better than we've already done, and the repbulicon party will be known as the fringe maniacs they are, and people will be embarrassed to say they supported the treason.

(70,897 posts)She knew she was screwing America and installing the loser of the Presidential Election into
the White House. And she was so sure about her rat fuckery that she had it written that bush
v Gore couldnt be used as case law for any past or future cases in front of the Federal Court
System.
And since then the GOP, the Judicial Crisis Network, Billionaires, and our media have worked
on packing the courts, gerrymandering, and having the minority control the majority. One can
only hope that Trump and his MAGA Maggots cripple the GOP for years to come.

We have always known the rich get off, look at all the rapists in fancy colleges with rich parents. I think what makes Trump different is he keeps doing illegal stuff over and over in our face and getting away with it.

(12,605 posts)Need a big comeuppance and to be taxed heavily to the point they cant afford to bribe anyone. Or simply charge them when crimes are discovered in the way trump is being charged in his rape case with an ever increasing dollar amount starting at 2 billion for crimes against the American people. That will get them to pay attention and every impropriety will add to the billions they owe.
I_UndergroundPanther
(12,605 posts)Have been too complacent and nice to republicans too willing to compromise and let republicans and rightward democrats like manchin hobble bills that would help the people.
Sometimes you have to say no more and push back ruthlessly even if it means the holdout suffers publicly or otherwise. There has to be a way for dems to get the right out of the party or at least neuter it. People farther left than the Dems have warned the Dems of what republicans were scheming for decades.
Bush was the test for negating an election to favor the minority and Dems didnt insist the ballots be counted fully because republicans were having temper tantrums and causing chaos.
We need to ignore republican Kens and Karens and stick to counting all the damn ballots when the sc ruled for bush the republicans undermined the fair vote now they plan to do the same shit if they see they are going to lose .
So Biden needs to demand every ballot be counted and not let the republicans scuttle deciding the election to the right corrupted stacked partisan Supreme Court insist on following the constitution to the very end regardless of chaos and temper tantrums .

(11,764 posts)I understand what you are saying regarding the threat the Trump poses to our political and social system. You just need to understand that this "failure" of the system is not a bug in many respects. Money and power, and the color of your skin, have ALWAYS been a stronger determinant of the "justice" you receive than the strength of your case.
The problem within our approach to this problem is that we, and by we I mean Liberals, Progressives, etc... who are part of the Democratic Coalition; have always thought that process and institutions would save us and would hold back the baser impulses, but they really haven't. Certainly we have won, through hard fighting rights for many people who were historically oppressed. We have made a great deal of progress, but as I said, not because of "process" and institutions, but because we FOUGHT to put the right people in those institutions and because we PUSHED those right people to do the right thing.
Conservatives have it a lot easier. They just need to wait and rely on inertia. They can count on apathy and people being tired in order for them to move in and accomplish their agenda. They can rely on our wanting to "be civil" and not push things to avoid being "divisive" so that our inaction will cede them what they want.
History is written by the victors. Just like the history of Native Americans is largely absent from "American History" because the "pioneers" took advantage of "opportunity" and tamed the wild land, instead of "The government used its strength to push smaller Native groups off land they had been on for thousands of years and gave it to White people". So. If Trump and is ilk do win. If they do fundamentally change the United States away from the ideals set forth in the Constitution, YES Democrats will be blamed, or we will be written about as one of the threats to the new society that was valiantly forged by these new patriots, much like Native American groups have been portrayed as savages and attackers whom the "pioneers" bravely defended themselves from on their quest to establish the new noble United States.
