(3,222 posts)It is a great movie. When I got home I was able to watch Up which I had recorded, so I was able to see the Kushner interview with Chris. Two more things to be thankful for.

I'd be interested to know how it got thru the 3/4 states it takes to amend the Constitution...

(2,593 posts)about Lincoln and Thaddeus Stevens. It made me realize just how superficially our educational system covers American history, with jingoistic phrases and cliches. Maybe I just wasn't interested at the time, but I certainly don't remember any in depth lessons about the points made in the movie about just how (and why) the 13th Amendment was passed.
The movie has inspired me to learn more......

(43,850 posts)Lewis's Lincoln was an object of fascination but Jones had to carry Stevens just on the strength of the performance since we don't have an image of him so much. He knocked hell out of that role. And his last scene was a brilliant LOL!

(68,200 posts)I've seen 3 movies with actors who could wind up in the Best Actor category: Ben Affleck in Argo, Denzel Washington in Flight, Richard Gere in Arbitrage.
