that also has videos. Just so you know why it is dangerous. The current Bill asks for the control to be turned over to an American company.
There is a reason so many agencies and companies ban Tik Tok. If you have Tik Tok on your phone, the Chinese have most of the data on your phone.

We trust them with the hardware and some of the software on our phones yet we arent banning IPhones yet.
Cant have it both ways.
Besides Facebook and x are already sharing and selling our info to China. I will believe tik tok is a problem when they shut down Facebook and x for the same thing they are accusing tik tok of.

All Mixed Up
(597 posts)It will be significant. Especially if Trump continues to oppose it. I could see it having a major impact on younger voters, who already are skeptical of Biden.
Biden's campaign, ironically, has a TikTok account. And in their most recent videos, pretty much every comment is asking Biden not to ban the app.
But there's plenty of apps aligned with nations we don't like that you can easily download off the app store, including the Russia equivalent to Facebook: VK. So, does this open the door to banning every app not located in the US? Seems sketchy.

To be clear, I'm not a Tik Tok user nor a fan of the Chinese government so I'm not defending them. But do we have evidence that they are run by the Chinese govt?

(53,368 posts)Granted, there are some minor barriers to this in the US.
It does seem a little weird that we (citizens and elected officials) seem to be concerned with China doing this but are at ease about our own govt doing it.

(9,767 posts)They wouldnt think twice about banning a foreign app like Tik Tok.
We are not China.
We have free speech and do business with other countries. Banning an app for being foreign or just collecting data is the opposite of everything we claim to stand for.
Again, we are not China!
