Whether there IS such a thing as a handbag worth $70,000 or not is, I guess, in the eye of the (very well-off) beholder.

My friends at Heritage Auctions in Dallas have a division that deals with that sort of thing, so I know that there are indeed such beholders. But I still marvel at the fact that there are enough of them to support a whole branch of a business. The old chicken/egg question must get asked often at those events: who is the greater fool, the one who won the bag for $70,000 at auction, or the one who dropped out of the bidding at $69,000?

them at a shop in one of the luxury casinos (Bellagio? City of Paris? Venetian?) They were stunning little jewel-encrusted works of art. I particularly loved the cats and the flowers. Back then, they went from 2 to 5,000. I just checked her website. .6 and up.

Even if I had that kind of money, would NOT spend it on a purse (and I LOVE my purses, most of which I find at thrift stores. 25 for a 400 Coach bag). I am just weird that way.

Something else to consider. .Wouldn't carrying a 70,000 bag make one a great target for thieves? "Look at me! I have stuff worth stealing!!!"
