amessage to republican so called christians

seen on facebook

What the hell did you expect me to do?
You told me to love my neighbors, to model the life of Jesus. To be kind and considerate, and to stand up for the bullied.
You told me to love people, consider others as more important than myself. "Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight." We sang it together, pressing the volume pedal and leaning our hearts into the chorus.
You told me to love my enemies, to even do good to those who wish for bad things. You told me to never "hate" anyone and to always find ways to encourage people.
You told me it's better to give than receive, to be last instead of first.
You told me that Jesus looks at what I do for the least-of-these as the true depth of my faith. You told me to focus on my own sin and not to judge. You told me to be accepting and forgiving.
I payed attention.
I took every lesson.
And I did what you told me.
But now, you call me a libtard. A queer-lover.
You call me "woke." A backslider.
You call me a heretic. A child of the devil.😈
You call me soft. A snowflake. A socialist.
What the hell did you expect me to do?
I thought you were serious, apparently not.
We were once friends. But now, the lines have been drawn. You hate nearly all the people I love. You stand against nearly all the things I stand for. I'm trying to see a way forward, but it's hard when I survey all the hurt, harm, and darkness that comes in the wake of your beliefs and presence.
What the hell did you expect me to do?
I believed it all the way.
I'm still believing it all the way.
Which leaves me wondering, what happened to you?
.
Grace is brave. Be brave.

You must confess your sins and then accept Jesus as your Savior.
He has already stated he has never done anything wrong, in public.

In my years as a Christian I read the complete Bible at least twice and the New Testament a number of times, studying both in their original languages because a translated word my not mean exactly the same as we would take it to mean.
But the gospels were written 40-65 years after the death of Jesus which is a problem written in the 1st AD if you think it's more accurate unless it's inspired by a god.

Misquoting Jesus or Jesus, Interrupted? Until the printing press, every hand copied version was a little different. That went on for almost 1,500 years. He claims there are most mistakes than there are words in the Scriptures.

The original Greek New Testament had no punctuation and the words ran together. That must have been fun to translate.

In fact, it's more likely that fundagelicals have read them than that mainstream or Catholic christians have. And if you want to know people who are definitely more likely to have read it, then atheists have all of you beat, hands down.

So how do you explain why the fundagelicals and atheists arrive at entirely different conclusions about what they've read than you do?

There have been many wars between Christian sects over the years.
I like Red Letter Bible Christians. The focus is on those words in red attributed to Christ. A great example are the Beatitudes. Pretty much the opposite of Old Testament Hell and Brimstone, an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth.
I’m a Democratic Secular Humanist, I put humans before gods.
Just have an interest in Comparative Religion as a subject of study.

It's your take. Others can, and do, have different takes on the religion, and theirs are as legitimate as yours.

That is very similar to the conversation my Dad and I had over Reagan. At the top of Dad’s lungs “Where did you get these ideas?” Me at the top of my lungs “From YOU!” Stopped him dead in his tracks.

My Dad was a Democratic Party precinct chair many years ago. My Mother worked elections for many years. We went to church every Wednesday and Sunday. Both were very proud to be Democrats for Reagan. 1980 changed everything.

We were living in Venezuela in then. Came home to find yellow ribbons everywhere. WTH? My Mom “oh, those are for the hostages in Iran.”

I never understood how they changed so much while we were gone. Living foreign can permanently change how you view our country.

You have no rational basis to call them so-called. You can disagree with their behaviour, but you are in no way qualified to determine the sincerity of their belief. They base what they believe on the same book you do.
