On her first podcast after getting elected co-Chair of the Republican National Committee, Lara Trump addressed her goals and plans in her new job.

First, she said that the RNC will, for the first time, start an initiative where they recruit and train people to then get jobs as poll workers around the country so they have their MAGA partisans counting the ballots. In the past, both parties have always recruited "poll observers" who watch poll workers as they count the ballots. But this is much different.

So, the plan is to use the RNC, which is basically now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Trump campaign, with people who are connected to the Trump campaign, to recruit and train people to work as poll workers counting the ballots on election day. As Lara Trump acknowledges here, this is something that has not been attempted before by the RNC.

"There was a moratorium on trained poll workers. These are people who are not just standing there looking around ... These are people who can actually go in there and physically handle the ballots. They can count the ballots coming in, count the ballots going out."

They used to be much more organized and consistent as a political party, but ever since Trump entered politics, it has been a nightmare, often revealing what these people really are like.

I didn't used to agree with most of their policies, but now they don't have any policies at all. It is showboating and political games all the time. And it turns out that apparently they don't believe in any of that stuff they once claimed.

5. I've never used mail-in voting... except for COVID era and when I was overseas..

I enjoy marching to the polling place... it gives me the feeling of involvement, the feeling that I put something into the system.

Having said that... eliminating CHOICE for others is just a scam to stop people from voting.

If they seek to change voting locations at the last minute to dissuade voters from voting - early voting and multi day voting or voting by mail defeats that ploy.

If voting is limited and centralized to just one day they can gum up the voting in blue areas more efficiently.

If voting is only on election day they can place broken voting equipment in blue areas to gum up Demo voters.

If voting is limited to just one day their robo calls to misinform voters are much more successful. Where as early voting gives Dems a chance to sort fact from fiction and then place their early vote.

One day voting allows them to change polling places at the last minute in blue areas to confuse and deny people from voting.

Early voting gives working class people multiple options to vote at different days and times to place their vote. But single day - election day voting - makes it difficult to vote if you do not have access to transportation. Or possibly lose your job because you had to stand in a long voting line for three hours because the ReThug Secretary of State intentionally allowed only minimal polling places in the blue area of town to make voting impossible for Dems.

Mail in voting is the best way to circumvent voter disenfranchisement schemes.

Historically, a decent percentage of Texas GOP voters were or are older and so use vote by mail. The GOP encouraged this form of voting to increase turnout. The Texas Democratic Party did not start pushing vote by mail until after vote id law was adopted. At the time, GOP vote by mail registrations were 10+ times the number of Democratic vote by mail registrations. Democrats caught up to the GOP registrations an now TFG is going to cause more GOP voters to stop using this form.

...I had a caregiving client who was in the throes of her final illness. She was confined to her home and dealing with all kinds of physical maladies. But she still wanted to vote. The county BoE sent her a ballot and she filled it out. Then she gave it to me so I could take it to the post office. I did what she requested, though I privately thought she was throwing her vote away because she cast it for T****.

In every election jurisdiction I'm aware of (that's most states), pollworkers are hired and elected by party. They are not trained by the parties, however, they are trained by the state/county election staff. Every election I've ever been connected with has had Republicans counting the vote. Right alongside the Democrats. To accomplish that, most BOEs I'm aware of reach out to the parties.

As to observers, however, the Republicans haven't been particularly effective at appointing observers. Unlike pollworkers, observers didn't have to be paired, and 90% of the time there is no Republican paired with me.
