The handpicked Trumpist running vs Sherrod Brown isn't polling that well. Brown +4
The mainstream GOP'er, Matt Dolan is leading Brown +2 but faces a tight Primary battle vs the Trumpist.
So hope for Bernie Moreno to beat Dolan.
Trump up by 10% in a 5-way race.

(7,155 posts)Even if it's "only" 5, that's ridiculous. I will never understand why my "origin" state spiraled downward and rightward so hard. It has several cities, and there's no reason for it to be so red. ... Fucking pathetic.

(2,228 posts)Thats why. Its sickening. If not for the gerrymandering I think we would be purple and maybe purple with a blue tint.

(15,507 posts)Districts can be gerrymandered, states can't.

(91 posts)I was gonna say. President and Senate are statewide elections, so gerrymandering is not involved here. Trump really up 5 to 10 tho?

(91 posts)And am from a border state of there. That Appalachia stubbornness is strong there even though they are not Appalachian, a lot of them have roots there

(52,169 posts)I grew up in Ashtabula County, far northeast corner. We went for Mondale, as did Lake. Trumbull, Mahoning, and the counties along the Ohio River. All of those counties went for Trump in some cases by large margins. Brown is able to hang on because he is still getting those voters (he represented some of them in Congress). Strickland, the last Democratic governor represented a lot of them in Congress. That isn't the entire story but it is a lot of the story.

(15,507 posts)Dolan 33, Moreno 31, LaRose 23. Primary is the 19th. Is the primary winner takes all or a runoff?
TSExile
(2,494 posts)I haven't heard anything about a possible runoff.

That said Im hoping Sherrod Brown gets re elected.

(1,128 posts)the most significant problem and reason for the disparity in representation is the low participation of voters in the urban areas (D) versus the highly motivated, rural voters (R).
Ontheboundry
(91 posts)Does not effect state wide elections
Wuddles440
(1,128 posts)but it certainly affects the races for Ohio Senate and House and the U.S.House!
Ontheboundry
(91 posts)It absolutely does but we were discussing the statewide race, no? Ohio in general leans fairly well to the right as of late, but those cities are blue
